My husband and I warily stayed at the Duncan in spite of mixed reviews. Upon arriving, we found the main foyer to be quite charming. The staff was friendly enough. We asked for a newly remodeled room which was very plain but clean. The hotel is in the historical section of the city where there are many beautiful buildings to... more

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in May as base for visiting New York. Was charged $55 per night which is pretty good as the hotel is is i the centre of town only 100 yards fro Yale University. The hotel is definitely not your usual chain hotel - in a good way. Quite a few of the... more

On a friend's suggestion, I booked at the Duncan since all other hotels near Yale were full. We were worried, based on the other reviews. However, we got a "recently remodeled" room and it was basic, but fine: clean, large, and the main bed was decent-enough, but the second bed was only a twin and was not comfortable. Bathroom was... more

i stayed at the duncan twice last year, the first time was in january and everything was fine, spent the majority of my time on campus. however, the second time i was there, in mid-september, i was there for a funeral. after the service, i came back to change clothes and just wanted to chill in my room with some... more

My husband and I stayed in a King Suite in March 2007. The room was fine - simple, old furnishings, spacious - but the bathroom was NOT clean. Yes, it was old, which is fine, but the toilet was filthy. If only the bathroom had been clean, I would be posting a very positive review saying it is the best... more

After reading a few reviews on the Duncan, it didn't seem that bad. It certainly is a 50's style hotel with a 120 year old hand operated elevator. I am thinking "cute and quaint", and right next to Yale. It also looks like you've stepped into a horror movie. The lobby is the only nice thing about the place. After... more

My son and I stayed at the Duncan for one night at the end of October. I had requested a non-smoking room away from the street and was shown to a large, clean, quiet room in the back. Everything was nice, the tv worked just fine, and the staff was polite. You can not beat this place for the price... more

Whilst visiting Yale in September last year (05), I stayed in the Hotel Duncan for 2 nights and will be returning in October this year. It is a ideal location for both the town and the university and I found the staff very friendly and helpful. There is a real old world feel to the place, reminiscent of the 1950's.... more

In taking into consideration the comfort for cost ratio I must give this hotel an "above average" rating. I paid $50/night (plus $6.00 taxes/night) and had a teriffic room. It was spotless, had a tv, maybe not all the niceties one is used to but for me it was just fine. It is very close to virtually everything...Yale U, museums,... more

I live in New Haven but stayed at the Duncan one night when my water heater broke. The man at the desk was very nice to me and put me up in a huge, stately suite with bay windows overlooking Chapel Street (and my car). It cost $50. I remember calling the front desk about the lack of heat until... more
