The Duncan is like greying old lady. Once a magnificent hotel, now an aging property still with glimpses of it's greatness. The hotel is located in the heart of New Haven close to theaters, restaurants and bars. Street parking as well as garage parking is nearby. The once grand hotel is in bad need of restoration. The neon sign outside... More

If you're looking for a place to sleep and take a shower, what more do you need? The Hotel Duncan makes it quite clear on their website that they are a no-frills hotel. Yes, it's old, but it's clean and the rooms are big. Plus the elevator is cool. Ask for one of the larger, non-smoking rooms. Close to everything... More

What, did you expect the Westin? It's a relief that the corporotization of America hasn't touched this one building, with its black-and-white tile lobby complete with two telephone booths and an old-school Coke machine. The bay windows are a good place to read the papers in the morning, perhaps accompanied by a character or two who are old-timers there. The... More

The Duncan is an 1890's era old hotel. Was frequented by actors and actresses when New Haven was a tryout before a show moved on to Broadway. A nice old school lobby. The oldest elevator in Connecticut still operated by a man whose job it is to take you up and own. When he is off duty, you climb the... More

The location is great, right in downtown. Unfortunately the hotel room was dirty, dusty and smelled badly. We didn't use the shower due to the lack of cleanliness. If you are not fussy about it, the hotel may has charm. Using the old elevator is an interesting experience.

We say somewhat because there are some things about this property that aren't charming at all (ice maker frequently not working, housekeeping chores obviously forgotten). That being said, this place is a hoot. Do not stay here if you're into spanking-new-sanitized-modern $300-a-night suite properties. If you are into an adventure, by all means go for it. One room which we've... More

My family group rented 4 rooms for Yale graduation. Thus, I got a cross section of the rooms. Every one was different. Each had a tv (which we didn't end up using), each had a small refrigerator, some had a window air conditioner, all of the plumbing worked. The building is old and barely renovated with ots share of crumbling... More
