I was stranded in New Haven during the Jan snow storm. My flight was cancelled and had to find a hotel in the last minute. I was told that Duncan Hotel doesn't need reservation, and always has rooms. So I walked over and checked in. Contrary to all the bad publicity about this hotel--that it is the cheapest in town,... More

I love the crazy atmosphere at the Duncan. It's not the most luxurious, but luxury makes me uncomfortable. Its cheap and real. And comfortable and atmospheric. I love the location and the kind of silly ultra exclusive feel to it. Only the insiders are accepted, and I'm not one of those, but I know many of those who are....ok, it's... More

My wife booked this hotel for our 1 night stay in New Haven on a road trip through Connecticut. When we checked in, the gentleman gave us the option of an air conditioned room or one without AC, but with a good view. We opted for the view. While the temperature of the room was a little warm, the bell... More

I stayed next door at The Study for several days before going to visit roots in Washington Ct and when back down to New Haven the Study was fully booked. So I went to the Duncan where I used to stay when a student. It was like a time warp but the price was right, the desk clerk fun to... More

The Duncan is a great little hotel, clean, comfortable, Wfi readily available. Every staff member with whom I came in contact was friendly and helpful, willing to stop and chat and find an answer to all my questions. The room rate, of course, can't be beat. I hope I have reason to visit New Haven again.

This is the only hotel in the state of Connecticut that has a manned elevator. It's almost like the hotel in Hartford, it's within walking distance to nearby restaurants, and it's about an hour from Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos.

We just spent 4 nights at The Duncan visiting our son at Yale. Great location. Very large room. Friendly staff. This is a facility from the 1940's, very unique. Manned elevator gives better service than the Hilton we are in now. It is not updated, but was 1/3 the price of the other hotels in the area.

I fell in love with duncan hotel the minute i walked in. It is, putting it politely, a hot mess. If the lobby and rooms were cleaned and updated, it could be a wonderful boutique hotel. But...a mess. You love it for the bones and location. It is immediately in the heart of downtown new haven.
