We stayed in the suite because we needed 3 rooms and this is basically the only hotel we know of in New Canaan. Their reservation says that the suite has two bedrooms and a living rooms with a pull out sofa but here is what it really has: One nice bedroom; a second 'bedroom' that is very small and has... More

This inn is in a beautiful part of Connecticut and a very upmarket town. The ambiance is great, but there were a few disappointments. Our room was dark and rather cramped. There was no coffee/tea making equipment in our room, and no ice bucket. You could get ice from the friendly registration staff. The bar/dining room was also rather dark.... More

Stayed here for two nights in June. Lovely area, lovely property, lovely building. Definitely felt more like an informal inn than an intimate bed and breakfast and also felt like a place that is more familiar to locals than it is welcoming to out of town guests. There is no main, parlor-type seating area--which surprised and annoyed me. There is... More

Disappointed. Not by the food but the luke warm and very slow service we received on a Wednesday night! We were seated in the bar area, which was perfectly fine. Our table of five told the waiter it was my birthday, but he was completely disinterested. Having lived in the US for over a year, I love the fact that... More

I stayed at the Roger Sherman Inn in late March 2014 for a short weekend getaway and had a wonderful time. I was in the handsomely decorated carriage house for 2 nights and really loved my stay. The Roger Sherman Inn is located just outside of downtown New Canaan, CT and is a 5-min cab or 15-min walk from the... More

Very friendly reception. Helpful: i got a room in the carriage house in the back, which was way to close to the kitchen and its noisy ventilation system, keeping me and my jetlag awake the first night. I asked and got a nice room in the back of the carriage house the next night, which was silent as can be.... More

Beautiful place. Close to the main street and yet in the middle of the woods. Really charming place. Professional staff could be more welcoming. The rooms a cozy and clean. Everything that you need. The A/C was really noisy and we stopped it. It was cold that night another blanket would have been useful. The expensive french restaurant is a... More

A beautiful 18th century inn in a beautiful setting. Rooms are nicely decorated, and many have fireplaces. Staff is friendly. A nice, continental breakfast is served at 7:30am. Large, covered porch available for drinks and dining in season.

While, if you need to be in New Canaan, the location is great, parking is ample and the grounds are pretty, the inn needs some work. The carpets on the stairs and halls are dirty; the window air conditioners are very noisy. The bed was comfortable and the linens were nice. Breakfast selection is very limited (cereal, coffee, breads) and... More

We did have a standard room for two nights (Rm. 25). Tiny room with everything crammed in. Window treatment next to air conditioner did not cover window fully, so in the morning light at 5:30 AM would shine into room. Toilet seat feel off when lifting and they did send someone to adjust it. Shower/Bath faucet was hard to lift... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This historical landmark in New Canaan, CT has been established as an Inn since 1925; the Inn was named after Roger Sherman whose niece, Martha Sherman, lived in the house from 1783 until 1806. Roger Sherman, a lawyer and delegate from Connecticut to the Continental Congress, had the distinction of being the only person to sign all four of these historical American documents: The Association, &c (1774), Declaration of Independence (1776), Articles of Confederation (1777), & The Constitution of the United States. In 2008, award-winning restaurateurs Nes & Joseph Jaffre became the owners of this elegant establishment and have transformed both the inside and the outside of the Inn. Recent renovations in 2012/2013 have given this historical landmark a modern, romantic feel while preserving the antique nature of the building. Come join us whether it's for a weekend getaway, cocktails at the bar, dining on our wrap around patio, an anniversary dinner, or a private party from 8 people to 180 people; our venue is perfect for all occasions! ... more   less
