I'm not sure if it is the restaurant or the other building that is giving this place any kind of reasonable rating. It probably needs to be seperated into the restaurant and the hotel. We had a terrible stay here. The noise from the restaurant was terrible in our room with drunken patrons loudly bragging and laughing until 11:30 pm.... More

I stay here when visiting family. Litchfield is rural and The Tollgate is the best place to stay with clean bathrooms, very large suites (fireplace & mini-frig), with a great little restaurant in the front building. Its a great place to wind down before bed with a nightcap. The front desk staff is always friendly and accommodating. There is plenty... More

We stayed here last weekend and it was a great experience. We all loved the fact that no two rooms were alike, and that every one of us who stayed here had a unique experience. Rooms were clean and had a great rural CT feel to them. If you're looking the luxury of a high end Manhattan hotel or the... More

"The desire to make you feel at ease, pampered, and at home" is the quote on the Tollgate's website. We found it hard to relate to any of those descriptives. When a hotel is going for that New England rustic charm feel, that shouldn't be an excuse for charging $200 for an old and tired room that is in desperate... More

I recently stayed at the Tollgate. The room had a huge fireplace and a rustic charm. The room was bright and had an a deck that we could walk out onto. The service at the hotel was great. The staff recommended several restaurants in the area which were fabulous and gave us directions and suggestions about where to go and... More

We reserved a double room at this inn for a wedding this past weekend. It was a horrible experience...dirty, smelly, dark, low water pressure. We decided to drive home at midnight instead of sleeping on the creepy bed. Recommend going somewhere else. We called twice to speak with a manager, but got no response. Customer service is not a priority.

Samantha Tilley, Executive Chef at the Captain William Bull Tavern adjoining the Tollgate Inn is amazing... we started with the strawberry gazpacho, then had the evening's special, swordfish. It was fresh and perfectly prepared with a great sauce. The second night couldn't resist the gaspacho (yum!) and we both had the duck special. Braised to perfection, again with a great... More

What can I say? A tavern in an Inn thats more than 250 years old, huge warm fireplaces, and a wood paneled dinning room. Add an excellent, creative menu and you have to makings of a nice night out with your significant other. As a restaurant fanatic and a stickler for quality ingredients and creativite cooking I found this place... More

We went for dinner. The Inn is set back from the road in the trees. It gives it a nice private secluded feel. The service was excellent. The food was also very good. We had stuffed chicken and steak cooked to perfection. The side dishes were also excellent. Sweet potato gratin and hand cut fries. They also had a nice... More

I was given the room that was in the same building as the restaurant. As soon as I walked in the room smelled of smoke from the fireplace. The room was dark and dreary and the bathroom was from the 1950's. When I took a shower, the water turned off 4 times and there was little hot water. The staff were... More
