We've been visiting the Duke for many years now and witnessed many changes to keep the pub in date. All of which have succeeded in keeping its regulars and frequent travellers both comfortable and happy, The welcome is a warm and light hearted one, the atmosphere bright and airy with a subtle wine bar feel. The restaurant offers a more... More

The Duke is our local - we are delighted it has undergone a facelift including the arrival of a new chef and menu and put itself firmly back on the map. We have eaten there three times in as many weeks - the al a carte is fab, the bar menu a pleasant change from the run of the mill... More

My fiancé and I stayed at The Duke William when visiting family in Canterbury. The Sat Nav decided to take us the bumpy route - but that's another story. When we arrived we got a few funny looks from the locals, but that's to be expected. We went in and approached the bar. We spoke to one of the staff... More

We live in one of the nearest villages to Ickham and have visited this pub to eat lunch or dinner many times in the past 8 years. Its setting is spectacular, especially the garden in a summer evening. However the quality of food is in decline. The menu sounds exotic ( trying to be gastro-pub, and not succeeding?) but is... Booked in for one night with another couple. Told we couldn't lock our room as key 'was in Germany'. Our fellow travellers couldn't lock their room until shown the special 'lift the door' technique. There were gaps across the ceiling in our room at top of walls to bathroom where it looked as if the aged floor had sagged when... More

I'm generally not a fan of the countryside and pub locations, but on a recent family trip to Kent we came upon The Duke William and thought it would be nice to have a late lunch/early dinner. From outside you do not expect the gorgeous interior. The beautiful open fire is wonderfully welcoming as are the staff. The dining area... More
