Booked in for one night with another couple. Told we couldn't lock our room as key 'was in Germany'. Our fellow travellers couldn't lock their room until shown the special 'lift the door' technique. There were gaps across the ceiling in our room at top of walls to bathroom where it looked as if the aged floor had sagged when... More

I'm generally not a fan of the countryside and pub locations, but on a recent family trip to Kent we came upon The Duke William and thought it would be nice to have a late lunch/early dinner. From outside you do not expect the gorgeous interior. The beautiful open fire is wonderfully welcoming as are the staff. The dining area... More

We had previously stayed here 3 times and whilst it's always been basic it was clean and convenient for our needs. However, we booked in last weekend for both Friday and Saturday. Firstly when we arrived we were left standing in the busy bar holding our luggage whilst a young girl with a can't be bothered attitude went to see... More

It would be okay if there wasn't a river of dirty water and beer you have to walk through to get to the door disgusting! The smell of chemical/beer as you walk towards the door is disgusting! If there that in jean outside I dread to think what there like inside! The manager is also rude on how he speaks... More

We had a nice ploughmans in the garden on a beautiful sunny day. We were tempted to stay inside as the pub has really nice surroundings but thought our dog would appreciate the fresh air which he did, especially as he could stretch his legs on the adjoining field. It is a beautiful pub with beautiful surroundings, very Kentish. My... More

My wife and I stayed here whilst visiting our daughter in Canterbury. Lovely location in a gorgeous village and a nice old world pub. You are greeted by friendly staff and a log fire. The pub was busy with lots of locals eating from an extensive menu. We enjoyed a few pints and lunch which was very nice. The rooms... More

My partner had booked a surprise meal and room for the night, the room was to be ready by 2pm. When we arrived at just after 5pm and was taken to the room a member of staff asked the room attendant in front of us if it was ready? He replied check and then stated the toilet leaked. They preceded... More

Probably not for the disabled due to steep stairs or to those who want to go to bed at 10 as this is a pub! The room was clean and comfortable, the full English breakfast was absolutely first class. The ingredients were all excellent local fare and cooked to perfection.

This was a three day family reunion with our French friends. We were welcomed and enjoyed the general ambience of the pub. The food was very good and the staff attentive throughout. The first impression outside was 'casual' and offputting. The front door was jamming but inside it was alright. The steep staircase was extremely difficult for the older person... More

Thank you very much for you feedback. As below we can't apologise enough for the lack of service to our bed and breakfast rooms while our usual room attendant was taking paternity leave. All staff are now aware of our room standards and I can assure you that this will certainly not happen again. I am very pleased you enjoyed... More

We've just returned from four nights at the Duke William. The food was excellent and the staff were really friendly. The Duke is in a beautiful village ideally placed for exploring Kent. Our room was clean when we arrived but unfortunately nothing was done to it for the four days we stayed. We had to request toilet paper, coffee, tea... More

I am very sorry to learn that your room was not freshened everyday. This is a standard procedure for us here at The Duke William and it is disappointing to hear that it was not carried out during your few days away. Unfortunately the member of staff who is usually in charge of the rooms was on paternity leave and... More
