We've been overnight guests years ago at Christmas and it's been a lifelong joy! Tho visit was for a meal. The Griswold Fish and Chips was so fresh and tasty, I ate too quickly! My wife tried the watermelon and feta salad. Pomegranate balsamic dressing with pistachio's. It was also very tasty. The best surprise was the "Coney island hard... More

Had dinner at the Griswold Inn last week while in the Essex area. The dinner was delicious. My husband's chowder was very thick and tasty. He had short ribs, which he enjoyed. I had cod with crabmeat. Very tasty too.

This beautiful establishment has been around for over 200 hundred years, filled with incredible history. For all you complaining reviewers, you obviously have no clue how to appreciate our rich history. It was like being in a museum. What a wonderful place. Different live music every night. I especially want to acknowledge Maura who works the front desk. She is... More

Regardless of other "recently published reviews", one should not visit inns that are older and have retained an aesthetic and rustic charm..if you are looking for glamorous splendor, then go elsewhere..We thoroughly enjoyed our visit..everyone there made us and our grand daughters feel most welcome..the area is beautiful, the noteworthy, the Conn river is a block away...

This was our anniversary so I really spent a lot of time finding just the right place. I thought I'd found it and reserved a deluxe suite. Well it was anything but. The room was depressingly decorated in browns and mustardy browns, our view was of the parking lot, unless you sat on the bed, and then it wasn't a... More

We decided to take a drive to Essex to check out The Griswold Inn after having been wanting to go for some time. We had a day off and was a good opportunity to check it out. When we arrived the entry to both check in and restaurant were a bit blended oddly and not welcoming as the ladies at... More

Service was attentive; waitress accommodating and friendly. Buffet, not lavish, but replenished frequently with standard, basic fare such as salads, fish in cream sauce, meatloaf, fried chicken along with waffles/toppings and an omelet station. All was freshly prepared with some selections tastier than others. A real bonus was the Jazz music making the breakfast experience a real pleasure and enjoyable.... More

We thank you for joining us on Fathers' Day to enjoy our popular Sunday Hunt Breakfast. Our guests typically enjoy this tradition quite a bit: they love the wide variety of breakfast and lunch offerings - particularly the made-to-order omelet and Belgian waffle stations. And given the price, it is certainly a value! Guests also like the fact that we... More

It was a bit disappointing to find the Griswold Inn lacking in the charm we expect from such a "name" place. The staff were very friendly, if not too efficient, but the room was small and devoid of amenities and the charm did not make up for it. It was $169 for a Sunday night which should buy more. There... Staying at the historical Griswold Inn was a memorable event. Inn staff was friendly and efficient. Tavern was enjoyable and food was good. Certainly appointed with lots of interesting quality memorabilia. Being old and authentic can make for some challenges however. Some of the rooms are down a few doors so you do go outside from reception desk to get... More

We had read other reviews, so chose a room on the third floor of the inn--away from the pub. It was quiet and very comfortable. The lighting in the room was the biggest drawback--you could hardly read in the evening, and the bathroom was also very inadequate for lighting. If you can't negotiate steep narrow stairs, a room elsewhere in... More
