While driving back home from my project in Connecticut, we dropped into The Griswold Inn for lunch. Having heard a lot of good about the Inn we actually went a little out of our way for the visit, and it was worth every minute. A very beautiful, historic property, in an idealistic setting. We were seated promptly for lunch, a... More

We were too tired to really appreciate, but what a find. Antique room with amazing shower & comfy bed. My wife loved her beef but my chicken was a bit ordinary. Breakfast was nice. Good staff. Wonderful little village for a few hours. Will remember it for a long time.

On the recommendation of friends and trip advisor reviews, we decided to see for ourselves why this inn was so well liked. What a memorable and wonderful experience awaited us at the "Gris." We were warmly welcomed by the reception staff and given a lovely queen-bed room on the second floor of the Inn. Maybe it is because we have... More

My childhood friend and I had lunch here recently. We were seated at a cozy table in the gun room. Lots of historic charm here. We ordered sandwiches, which were served promptly. They were reasonable priced and very tasty. We were encouraged to look around at the different dining rooms after lunch. Each room was decorated with that great maritime,... More

My husband and I enjoyed our recent stay and had a wonderful experience at the Griswold from the moment we arrived. Each staff member that we encountered was friendly and knowledgeable. Our room was small but oozed colonial charm. No complaints about the accommodations - had a quiet and restful night's sleep. We decided to have dinner at the Inn... More

I had brunch here with my family. It was great. Food was delicious, hot, and I didn't have to wait to get something I wanted. They were always refreshing the buffet. There was a good variety. Only complaint was our waitress. We had to ask for drinks and refills. My tea was luke warm at best. She didn't clear the... More

Happy Easter we went to the Easter brunch today and had a 10 am reservation . When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly staff member that was a good start. After being seated our waitress was prompt and also friendly wow 2 for 2 . 10 am was the start of the Easter brunch so things picked... More

The town of Essex is cute. But we stayed at this place 1 night in December 2014 on the recommendation of a friend and we were terribly disappointed. The restaurant was mediocre, the server was brusque and seemed like he hated his job. When we asked about which white wine he would recommend, the best he could say was that... More

I recently stayed here with my husband on a snowy weekend. We enjoyed walking around the town and visiting the local shops. We spent some time relaxing in the bar with some delicious cocktails and homemade potato chips. We also enjoyed a special dinner in the dining room, where the food, service, and atmosphere were exceptional. Our room was clean... More

spent a delightful night at this historic Inn. Nice room with wood burning fireplace; comfy bed. Small town New England at it best. Local hang out with live music on Friday nights. Great place to spend our anniversary. Remember it is off season so not much was open, but that OK with us.
