This place is absolutely filthy! There was feces on the wall, carpets are old and filthy with stains everywhere and old fingernail clippings on the floor. Sheets were full of hair and comforter and pillow had stains all over. Heater worked for a while and then it would trip the breaker. Had a freezing cold room all night and the... More

We were desperate. Otherwise, we would have kept driving another hour or two. We passed through two small towns where the restaurants were shuttered. Those towns must have been hit hard by the economy. We came to this third town, found a place, but it was only open for lunch and we just missed it. My mom spoke to a... More

This was our third time staying at the Rio Cucharas. It is very quiet, and we prefer the second floor rooms. Love the view of the Spanish Peaks. We like it, because it is close to La Veta, Zapata Falls, The Great Sand Dunes, Hooper Hot Springs, etc. We didn't partake of the Continetal Breakfast. I was hoping for a... More

We where traveling thru on the way to Colorado Springs, and could not find any available rooms at any halfway decently rated hotels, so we took a chance and chose the rio cucharas inn. the staff is very nice and colorful as well. The dogs are super friendly not sure why other reviewers where scared of them they where sweethearts.... More

Grossest motel ever! Look at the rooms before you pay! Sketchy people running the joint, dirty rooms, dogs in the lobby. Stained sheets and mattresses, nasty floor and no locks on doors! Just avoid it all together! I'd sleep in my car before staying there!

Clean - Quite - friendly and half the price of BW and located midways between Walsenburg and Laveta Co. On highway 160 went out of their way to show appreciation for staying with them staying there again first of August

We pulled into Rio Cucharas around 11PM. The other motels in town are small mom and pops and fill up or have offices that close early. The room rates weren't bad. We got the "Executive Suite" which has two double beds. The AC worked fine and the beds were comfortable, but the floor looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in... More

The manager was nice and friendly. The room was clean, however they really need to replace a lot of things. The towels were small, thin, and rough. The washcloths looked like rags. The sheets had holes and were ragged. The carpet wasn't all that great. The blinds need replaced as a couple of slats were broken, so anyone could peer... More

After staying in many motels across the western United States this summer the Rio Cucaras Inn was a refreshing change to the standardized conformity of motels we are used to seeing. The staff was corky but very friendly and helpful. Everything had an authentic unintentional vintage and retro feel. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was clean with... More

Do NOT Do NOT Here Here It Is Very Sketchy. First of all it gave me and my family a weird feeling when we walked into to the room we had rented and that usually doesn't happen to us a lot. When you go to lock the door it doesn't lock from the inside it locks automatically which I thought... More
