My husband and I had planned on staying in another town but accommodations were full. I called the Prospector and a nice female employee said they had a room available. She was very helpful and reserved the room for me over the phone. I was a little nervous because I hadn’t seen any reviews but we were desperate.
Upon arrival, I found our key at the office. There were several guys hanging outside but found that they were just guest who had come in from riding ATV’s earlier. The room was #12. Large but dated and basic but for the price and last minute, it was fine. We found it all to be clean and everything was in working order. It was also quiet through the night. I would stay there again.

We were looking for a typical small "road trip" motel in June 2006. The Prospector lives up to that description. Rooms are clean, roomy and comfortable. As far as I know it is the only single story motel in the main city area. Used as a staging place for exploring the mountains in the area. Second generation owner, Andy, takes personal attention to detail. Let him know exactly when you will be arriving so he can have the room and key ready for you, otherwise he's likely to be out and about in Silverton. Silverton is now a very small and well preserved 19th century mining town. Restaurants to recommend are the Brown Bear Cafe and Handlebars.

Don't let the outside fool you. We would stay here again without hesitation. We arrived without a reservation, but the owner, from the midwest was most accomodating to us. Our large room was very clean and quite. There is no pool, but we were there to see the town.

Prospector is the bare minimalist in accommodations in Silverton in summer and
over priced for what you get. We won't be back.

Including the wifi which has very limited bandwidth.
I tried joining a zoom call and constantly got dropped.
Eventually gave up.
It's barely good enough to check your email and that's it.

The bath towels are thin, rough and small, barely good enough to dry you off.
We didn't get any soap. Fortunately we had our own.

On the plus side it was a good sized room and had a good size refrigerator.
The beds were ok but not great. They were a bit unevenly worn.

If you don’t want to get any sleep at night, then this is the place for you. The mattresses were the absolute worst we have ever slept on! There are only 2 lamps with 25 watt bulbs in the room, so not enough light to read. The TV is a “smart” TV, but there are no directions on how to use it, so we sat in silence in the room. The bath tub is a slippery death trap. The bathroom is barely large enough to turn around in. There is no air conditioning, you’re told to open the window. All this for only $139/night! What a rip off!

Stayed a night. Old motel that is very worn. It had terrible beds. No AC. Rooms are dark and old. Door handles didn’t work half the time, from the inside or outside. Locks were difficult to lock. This is definitely a motel of last resort…. Look for a better option.

The Prospector is a wonderful motel that is clean and affordable. We stayed there in the summer of 2006, the fall of 2006 and the summer of 2007. We have always been pleased with our accommodations. The owner of the motel, Andy Hanahan, is a gracious host, always willing to a give a recommendation for dinner, share stories of the area, or give an occassional "ride" to a hiker to a trailhead. We relax at the motel after our days jeeping and hiking the many trails in the area. We understand he has recently upgraded his rooms to accommodate the skiers that visit Silverton Mountain in the winter. We are sure the Prospector will be as popular to the winter crowd as it is to the summer explorers of Silverton. We love it there!

I couldn't have asked for anything more. The mountains were gorgous; the price was more than reasonable; accommodations were clean; rooms were quiet and Andy, the owner, remains as friendly and as gracious as he has been during my previous stays. I On this particular trip I had business in Durango but stayed at the Prospector and drove into Durango when necessary. The internet service at the motel allowed me to combine business and pleasure in one of the most scenic areas of the country. Thank you Andy!

Why pay up and stay at a stuffy "B&B"...stay here and meet a real owner who cares. Andy makes it fun and that is so cool. Walk around Silverton and explore some local pubs and local pubs. After seeing some local pubs you might want to take a nap in your wonderful king size at the Prospector.
