Great place to stay in Salida. Incredible value for your money. The owner was helpful and friendly and the room was charming and clean. Rooms have a coffee maker, small refrigerator, microwave, dishes and utensils. Plenty of towels, blankets, etc. Will stay here again.

Salida is a wonderful town. The people we met were so friendly and genuine. Ira was instrumental in connecting us with people and places. Our cabin was perfect. We had a sitting room to read and watch television. We had a small kitchen to cook in if we wished. Bella, the canine hostess, was very friendly. The location of the... More

SUPER clean rooms and public spaces -- grass had been freshly mowed and flowers were abundant. Loved the 'public' fridge in the laundry room stocked with goodies -- pay on the honor system and all proceeds go to a local charity.

We stayed here for one night while on our way to Mt. Crested Butte. The room was a bit rustic but clean and comfortable. Management was very helpful. No real complaints about this motel! Our room had two Queen beds and a twin bed. Great room for family fun. Rates are very good also. Good restaurants with in walking distance.... More

We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed it. Ira was really nice and helped us out with places to eat and where to visit. Belle was also a great addition. The hotel is pet friendly which is also a bonus. We will definitely stay there again!

We were in town for a friend's wedding and to hit up some local mountain bike trails. The Mountain Motel is not fancy or luxurious but we didn't expect it to be. It was clean, comfortable and quiet and the price was right. I've definitely stayed in motels that were more expensive and not as clean. This is why I'd... More

Great location. IRA and Belle were wonderful host/hostess. Got great recommendations for things to do and places to eat! Would stay there again. Salida is a neat small town and perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.

We stayed several days in the charming town of Salida, Colorado. Using Trip Advisor I picked this motel. I'm not sure if I misread reviews but it was not what I expected. Ira checked us in and he is friendly and accommodating. We asked for a cottage and had mixed feelings when we entered. It was clean, neat and had... More

Loved it. The Mountain Motel is a charming and rustic place which wreaks of Salida. It is fun, current but old, friendly and respectful, great for all sorts of mountain interests. It is easy to find and convenient to downtown Salida as well as mountain activities.

Worked out perfectly to stay at the Mountain Motel on our way through town. Not sure what happened on some of the other reviews but Ira is harmless and very sweet. Great place to stop and take a load of for the evening.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hitchin’ Post Motel cabins, formerly known as the Mountain Motel welcomed its first guests in 1947. In 1996, six more rooms were built to accommodate the tremendous influx of visitors to the motel. The Hitchin’ Post Motel has been a family endeavor, being locally owned and operated since 1947… over 55 years! In December 2011, the owners of The Mountain Motel felt that it was time to showcase the charm and history of the motel by changing the name to The Hitchin’ Post Motel representing the by-gone era of the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. After transforming the office area into a lounge and reading room, the energetic owners set to work to begin outfitting the remaining nine rooms with an exhaustive inventory of Mountain Western Retro furniture, fixtures and room décor. Their vision to make the Hitchin’Post, Salida’s FIRST “boutique mote;” and reinventing an American icon – the roadside motel is coming to life!Foremost in the minds of the staff at the Hitchin’Post Motel is to provide guests with a comfortable, cozy, distinctive and memorable stay. One-size DOES NOT fit all! Each room has been reimagined to bring in the owner’s own style to make each room personable and “one-of-a-kind.” Room décor is “Mountain Western Retro” – reminiscent of properties dating back to the 1940’s, 1950’s, and early 1960’s. We consider our motel an ever evolving work of “motel art,” where updates and décor are an on-going effort. We pride ourselves on being the only local motel to bring the “boutique motel” experience to guests visiting Salida.A locally owned motel, the Hitchin’ Post Motel is noticeably different in look and feel from other hotel/motel chains – we love it when our guests are pleasantly “surprised” to find that the motel offers much more than a room to sleep. We invite YOU to share our “Mountain Western Retro” experience! Whether it be… sharing a bowl of chili on a cold day with other guests, or sipping the special “Hitchin’Post Ice Tea on a hot day… your stay at the Hitchin’Post Motel in Salida, Colorado will be a memory to share forever and keep you coming back, year after year. ... more   less
