We had a nice 2 day stay arranged well in advance, which can be problematic at some establishments. Ira runs a tight ship when it comes to staying on top of his customer's needs. We had 2 rooms, 10 and 11. Eleven was a suite with kitchen, etc. We were there on a very busy weekend with a rock and... More

We had a wonderful stay at the Mountain Motel in Salida! The location is perfect - liquor store on site and 7-11 across the street. Washer and dryers available for use. The room and bathroom were spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The best part was the deer that visited every day right outside of our hotel. What more... More

Three of us had unit 10, a spacious corner unit on the 2nd fl which gave us a nice big picture window & 2 other good sized ones. Not high end but some very nice touches - retro dining furniture, lovely bathroom sink / cabinet combo, thick Egyptian cotton towels. There are benches in front of the cottages, 1 on... More

We rented room 6 for 2 nights and had friends in cabin 2. I loved some things about this place. Our room had a slider to a small patio with 2 chairs and grass in the back. It was a nice place to get some air (the cabin didn't have one). There was a laundry room with a fridge stocked... More

My dog and I had a great time here in our little cabin. The location was great--there was an empty lot and field next door, so Lucky had lots of room to run and play. The cabin has two beds, a tiny closet, a couple of dressers, a small stove, dorm fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The bathroom was small... More

We usually make 4 to 6 trips a year to Salida. We have two dogs that make the trip with us. We have stayed at a couple of other places and then we found Mountain Motel. It is the only place we stay now. The dogs are welcome, the beds are awesome, the rooms clean, and the staff is friendly... More

In July we stayed two nights in Cabin #3 after reading reviews. We had our large Lab with us and it was obvious that owner Ira enjoys dogs. We felt very comfortable and welcome, which isn't always the case with a 100 lb. dog. Our cabin was very clean and well cared for, with a quirky western character (all nicely... More

The staff is very friendly. The rooms were nice and clean, and the beds were comfortable. You are able to do your own laundry there for free. They supplied laundry detergent and bleach. They also had snacks and drinks in a refrigerator that you paid for on the honor system. This is a great place to stay and the rooms... More

Great place to stay. Hopefully the revival of road-side motels continues, so much character and just down-to-earth and laid-back. Ira is a very friendly host as well and will take care of your needs. Try it out! You'll be glad you did.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hitchin’ Post Motel cabins, formerly known as the Mountain Motel welcomed its first guests in 1947. In 1996, six more rooms were built to accommodate the tremendous influx of visitors to the motel. The Hitchin’ Post Motel has been a family endeavor, being locally owned and operated since 1947… over 55 years! In December 2011, the owners of The Mountain Motel felt that it was time to showcase the charm and history of the motel by changing the name to The Hitchin’ Post Motel representing the by-gone era of the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. After transforming the office area into a lounge and reading room, the energetic owners set to work to begin outfitting the remaining nine rooms with an exhaustive inventory of Mountain Western Retro furniture, fixtures and room décor. Their vision to make the Hitchin’Post, Salida’s FIRST “boutique mote;” and reinventing an American icon – the roadside motel is coming to life!Foremost in the minds of the staff at the Hitchin’Post Motel is to provide guests with a comfortable, cozy, distinctive and memorable stay. One-size DOES NOT fit all! Each room has been reimagined to bring in the owner’s own style to make each room personable and “one-of-a-kind.” Room décor is “Mountain Western Retro” – reminiscent of properties dating back to the 1940’s, 1950’s, and early 1960’s. We consider our motel an ever evolving work of “motel art,” where updates and décor are an on-going effort. We pride ourselves on being the only local motel to bring the “boutique motel” experience to guests visiting Salida.A locally owned motel, the Hitchin’ Post Motel is noticeably different in look and feel from other hotel/motel chains – we love it when our guests are pleasantly “surprised” to find that the motel offers much more than a room to sleep. We invite YOU to share our “Mountain Western Retro” experience! Whether it be… sharing a bowl of chili on a cold day with other guests, or sipping the special “Hitchin’Post Ice Tea on a hot day… your stay at the Hitchin’Post Motel in Salida, Colorado will be a memory to share forever and keep you coming back, year after year. ... more   less
