My son and I loved the Mountain Motel, we stayed in room 6 and it was decorated great and super, super clean, which is a #1 priority to me. We will definitely stay there again when we make it back to Salida. We loved having the fridge and microwave in the room and the bed was really comfortable.

We enjoyed our stay at Mountain Motel very much. It was very restful for my husband and I and our cat, Jimmy. The accommodations are quaint and cozy ! Ira was very helpful with anything we needed. We certainly will stay there again next time we are in Salida.

Comfy and cheerful. I loved having the open space nearby - so did my doggie. The room was mountain-charming and very comfortable. (We were in "cottage" 3). Yippee, there was a big can of coffee in the room and we enjoyed making some for the AM. I'll be back! Thanks, Ira!

We loved staying at the Mountain Motel in Salida. We were in Studio 11. It has a great kitchen for use. The owner was very flexible with our schedules and gave us great customer service. He was also knowledgeable about the area!

I usually stay here when I come back home. I have no worries about my lodging when I come here to stay. Staff is always friendly and smile. Ira is always accommodating, laid back and, very helpful. My time back here is very important to myself, my family and, friends. I really don't care to stay anywhere else, and, I... More

The Mountain Motel looked like a great option to stay from first viewing it online. Our experience helped solidify this. We had a great time staying at the Motel and the owner Ira was great! Check in was super easy from the start, we greeted Ira at the front desk and our room was open and ready for us. The... More

Owners are very nice and helpful. Accommodations were clean and very comfortable. Stayed here over the weekend while skiing in Monarch Saturday and Sunday. If we're ever back in Salida this will be the place we're staying.

I really had no idea what was in store for myself and family when I booked our room. I was just happy to find pet friendly lodging in Salida. And frankly, I was worried when we pulled into the motel parking to check-in. Previously we were pretty much stuck on major chains and an occasional Best Western. It had been... More

I called Mountain Motel last minute to book a room on a Saturday after I saw a ski deal on TripAdvisor. Ira was extremely helpful and booked us for the last room available and still granted us the ski deal with it! We arrived later than expected and had 2 dogs with us but everything was comfortable, accommodating, and clean.... More

Ira, the owner, goes out of his way to make your trip easy and make you feel welcome. We stayed two nights in two different rooms, and both were clean and well kept. Unit #5 had a well executed intentionally kitschy 70's theme.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hitchin’ Post Motel cabins, formerly known as the Mountain Motel welcomed its first guests in 1947. In 1996, six more rooms were built to accommodate the tremendous influx of visitors to the motel. The Hitchin’ Post Motel has been a family endeavor, being locally owned and operated since 1947… over 55 years! In December 2011, the owners of The Mountain Motel felt that it was time to showcase the charm and history of the motel by changing the name to The Hitchin’ Post Motel representing the by-gone era of the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. After transforming the office area into a lounge and reading room, the energetic owners set to work to begin outfitting the remaining nine rooms with an exhaustive inventory of Mountain Western Retro furniture, fixtures and room décor. Their vision to make the Hitchin’Post, Salida’s FIRST “boutique mote;” and reinventing an American icon – the roadside motel is coming to life!Foremost in the minds of the staff at the Hitchin’Post Motel is to provide guests with a comfortable, cozy, distinctive and memorable stay. One-size DOES NOT fit all! Each room has been reimagined to bring in the owner’s own style to make each room personable and “one-of-a-kind.” Room décor is “Mountain Western Retro” – reminiscent of properties dating back to the 1940’s, 1950’s, and early 1960’s. We consider our motel an ever evolving work of “motel art,” where updates and décor are an on-going effort. We pride ourselves on being the only local motel to bring the “boutique motel” experience to guests visiting Salida.A locally owned motel, the Hitchin’ Post Motel is noticeably different in look and feel from other hotel/motel chains – we love it when our guests are pleasantly “surprised” to find that the motel offers much more than a room to sleep. We invite YOU to share our “Mountain Western Retro” experience! Whether it be… sharing a bowl of chili on a cold day with other guests, or sipping the special “Hitchin’Post Ice Tea on a hot day… your stay at the Hitchin’Post Motel in Salida, Colorado will be a memory to share forever and keep you coming back, year after year. ... more   less
