If you know anything about my reviews, you probably know that I like to stay at hostels and unusual places... not a big fan of chains... not that I have anything against them. I was heading through Rico.. to do a little gold panning as I was enroute to Ridgway and Hwy. 55o. A storm came in and I had... More

The proprietor showed us around and described some of the fascinating history of this building. The parlor contains an awesome old wood burning stove. If you are going as a couple or desire privacy, I recommend the private suites on the second floor. The other rooms share a smallish bathroom on the second floor and you are therefore subject to... This Hotel should be a member of Historic Hotels of America, but maybe it's too small. A really comfortable and homey place that is nicely restored. It has few of the services of a major hotel, but the charm and character of the place make up for that.

Had a great time staying here during the Telluride bluegrass festival, while Rico is a small town, from this hostel you can walk to a couple restaurants/bars, a coffee shop, as well as some trails and hot springs. The owner takes great pride in the place, keeps it very clean and is helpful if you have any questions about the... More

This is it, literally "the nicest hostel in the world." I said it when I was there and it is true. I'm compelled to write a review of this place as I am sitting in it. I am that amazed by it. This place is gorgeous. It is made to look like a Victorian home and the detail is astonishing.... More

The rooms are clean, the host is super friendly and the price cannot be beat. This place costs as little as a campground and comes with plenty of amenities. Options like use of the kitchen and laundry make it very convenient. When I asked, the host even guided me personally to the local hot-springs.

Pancho has taken on the running as an owner/operator of the lovely Mineshaft Inn in Rico, Colorado. This charming authentic Western Victorian building has great views and great furnishing. It is clean and affordable. I enjoyed the open floor plan layout that encourages social interaction with the owner and other guests in the friendly manner of a hostel. My only... More

I imagine the rooms upstairs will be plenty warm once I light the wood stoves below. Plus, each room also has it's own heater. Amazingly, I already had to light the main fireplace on August 9! More
