We stay at the Historic Western Hotel every year when we visit Ouray, CO. We always stay in room # 9. Private bath, large room with comfortable bed. Reasonably priced too. Very old time feel. We love it! This year we ate all our meals in their restaurant, and we were very happy with food and service. They were very... More

Some history is downright sad. So much potential with authentic historical artifacts everywhere...including cobwebs, broken lamps, dead bugs, filthy stained carpet, duct tape repairs, crumbling plaster, holes in the walls and ceiling, embarrassingly dilapidated furniture, exposed electric wires, bulb-less lights and "vintage" bed sheets probably dating back to the 1970's. Eeewwww! Visited 19 years ago and loved the quaint step... More

stayed at this dump of a "hotel" over Labor Day weekend. it's old and not maintained at all. this place is falling apart. not CLEAN. I think they still have the original beds, not comfortable. not even the basics provided here like shampoo. paid $125/night. dinner here horrible, didn't want to feed the left overs to my dogs.

Real old time feel of how people stayed in Hotels back in the day....places like this are dying and that is sad. Prices where cheap two if you get a shared bathroom room....which is how they did it back then as well. Only reason I did not give it full stars is because many easily maintainable and easy to fix... Wonderful hosts, beautiful old western hotel. There are ghosts too. The original tin roof is still in the lobby, also the chandeliers and stained glass. The restaurant is the best in town and the view is breathless. Close to hiking trails, hot springs pool, and the best stores in town.

History buffs will love this historically worn building and the storyteller who goes with it. Gregg, the owner, entertained us with stories describing the old pictures which adorn the walls. They whisper stories of the rough and tumble silver mining era and the drama that went with it. The saloon/restaurant will take you back to the 1890's...how amazing is that?!... More

We wanted authentic and we got it. This old, old hotel is exactly as it has been for décades, with creaky floors, antique furniture, the original wallpaper, and history. If the walls could talk....be sure to participate in the owner's tour of the hotel as he explains all the rowdy past : gunfights, ladies of the night, and of course,... More

If you are looking for a modern, cookie-cutter hotel room, this ain't your place! It IS your place if you are looking for a touch of Old West feel and history with creaky old wood floors, no TVs (YES!), simple, vintage furniture and decor, a shared bathroom down the hall (except the 2 more expensive rooms with their own baths)... i'm used to complaining when i feeled burned about somethiong , but today i would like to say something nice about a great histroic hotel , send the kids to the little rooms which share one of three baths in the hall while the parents can get some free time in the spacious front suite complete with claw foot bat...
