we went to this hotel sight unseen as a friend had booked it for us. all we knew was that is was historic and kind of primitive. we are always up for a good adventure, but were not prepared for the wonderful time coming our way! as this is the "off" season for this community, we were lucky to get... more

We did not had possibility to stay in this old, charming Wild-West hotel but I had an indept look into the rooms, bathrooms and restaurant. If you like the experience of an old charming Wild-West hotel you should give it a try. The owner asked 45 $ for a double room with shared bathroom which is a reasonable price for... more

My family and I were very excited to stay in this historic little hotel. I booked the rooms by calling the front desk directly and had no problems. The hotel is in a great location on a side street, right off the main street. When we checked in, it was pretty much like we expected; old, creaky, no elevator, small,... more

Take a step back into the 19th Century! As you walk through the front door you’re greeted by Colorado history at its best. You will enjoy hand painted wallpaper, original tin ceilings and tales of the old west. The Inn Keeper, Greg, will wow you with historical fact of gun fights, silver mines and gold gold-rushing. Not only is this... more

Ouray's a strange little town, so it's fitting that we stayed in this strange little hotel. The first thing that you should know about this hotel is that if they offer you a room with a "shared" bath, you're going to be sharing a tiny, dingy shower stall, two toilets, and two leaky faucets with 5 other rooms and 10... more

we really wish we had known about this place before we hit ouray. never having been to this gorgeous mountain village before, we made reservations at a best western, figuring that would be fine. the best western WAS fine. suddenly, fine seemed like not good enough when we--by chance--walked into the lobby of this 1891 hotel. talk about stepping back... more

I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel after reading the previous reviews as I am a fan of old historic hotels and wanted a different lodging experience other than the typical chain motel room. I called the owner of Historic Western Hotel back in mid-August to make my reservation. He seemed nice enough on the phone then... more

We stayed one night in room 9. We spent most of the night reading the entries in the journal from previous visitors. There were allot of marriage proposals and anniversaries there. We didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant, but the town is absolutely gorgeous. Were definitely gonna be vacationing there next summer! more

Like some of the other reviewers, we wanted to stay somewhere other than a regular chain hotel. We booked the (blue) suite which was very lovely and were very satisfied with our experience at the hotel. It was fun to walk around and look into the other rooms that were not occupied at the time and for the most part,... more

I want to know more about the flavor of the old west than I'm able to pick up from the movies "Maverick" and "True Grit" and for that I'm truly glad I stayed at the Historic Western Hotel. Furthermore, I'm glad I read all the reviews before my late December stay. Although I disagree with most of what was said... more
