As the name states it's a historic place. By far one of the oldest houses in town. So if you're looking for an all shiny new hotel block this is not your place. But for us the Melrose was just perfect for a few nights. You could feel the history and heritage when walking through the narrow hallways with the... More

Some "historic" hotels are quaint, charming, or interesting. The staff attempt to make it work, but this property is old, decrepit, and worn out. The Rodeway Inn up the street would have been a much better choice.

you remember those older hotels our grandparents went to... Near downtown, with a lobby and rooms up the stairs? Well, as time goes on, those hotels usually change direction (as they age) and usually start doing long-termed residents and a few room for hostelers.. like me. Despite what others may say, the place is clean and tidy. There is a... More

The place is full of drug dealers, drunks, pill poppers and homesexuals. Aids, Hep C and Herpes are are some of the things you may get if you stay here. The common bathrooms are NEVER cleaned and the place is very dirty.

Grand Junction is one of the friendliest towns we have ever visited. This Hotel is no exception! Henry (the Manager) is very knowledgeable of the restaurants and clubs in the downtown area, all within walking distance of the Hotel. The Museum is just around the corner, and we spent an afternoon learning about the History of Western Colorado. If you... More

GJ is one of tour stops every year, and this is the first time we picked a hotel in downtown and not way out by the freeway. So right there is the first star - a stellar location. The staff was more than accommodating and friendly. They checked us in when we arrived in the middle of the night, fixed... More

It was a dump. The lounge contained some people who didn't look very errr... savoury (no offence) slumped on sofas that aren't old enough to be antique but too old to be anything but scruffy. The room needed a decent non-V-shaped mattress, the sink pipes boxing in and the toilet improving to deal with non-liquid waste. There was a constant... More

This place is so scary, I thought I must be on an acid trip, or was it just that I felt I could get drugs at the front desk??? The hotel has a great big FOR SALE sign on the building. I guess that was photo shopped out, hard to believe this got great ratings from other people. I think... More

Plain and simple - I could not tell if I had checked into a halfway house, crack house, or hotel. Like others who have reviewed this place, I gave it a try because I generally like 'historic' hotels, and this showed up in the searches. I should have listened to my gut when I pulled up and saw the huge... More

we stayed one night & requested room with bath. It was $65, clean, nice shower, helpful manager, good bed. Remember this is OLD. One block from the lively downtown and the Bistro Italiano which has to be the best restaurant in the world. We felt safe & slept well.
