The Fairplay is is unique in the best way. Gorgeous amenities and wood work. The restaurant serves fantastic fresh food, and the rooms were perfect. There has apparently been a difficult transition for the new owners due to an uncooperative previous owner. The staff was great, I highly recommend it.

Phone price not honored. Employee smoking on porch. Told they had a restaurant but found out it was closed due to employees quitting. Owner told me " To Blow". Dog pee in room. Heater broke. Wi Fi did not work.

I called to check price for the night for three people and pet policy and was quoted $80. Upon arriving at the hotel it took over ten minutes to get a staff member to try and check me in then she had to get the owner. Then they charged me $106. When I complained they said the $80 was if... More

We recently visited this hotel for a wedding reception. The last time we were there we were not impressed. But this time the staff was excellent, very attentive and glad to help. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is under new management and a different attitude is noticeable. Changes are being made to the interior of the hotel to bring... More

It's an elegant place and the rooms have character. Loved the atypical bedding with flowered sheets and pretty comforter, it was charming. It's recently changed management and or ownership so expect changes. I'll email them separately about some things to improve. No screen on the windows where we were but we opened the window when the lights were off and... More

It is so quaint and wonderfully historic. I've stayed here twice, and if I pass through the area again I will stay here. The owner is on premises, and is a very nice person. Looking forward to next visit.

We decided to beat the heat in town and head up to the mountains for the weekend to explore, 4wd and hike. Not being much for camping I found this hotel online that was pet friendly (a requirement for us). We weren't sure what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. It is a historic hotel (1873) so you'll have to... More

We just returned from a one-night stay at the Valiton. We enjoy historic old hotels and know that sometimes that means things aren't in perfect condition, etc. I like that all of the original old wood trim and even most original paneling is still in place. The doors to the bathrooms in the rooms tend to be fussy about closing... More

We had such a fun stay here! Bessy and Constance were so friendly and accommodating! Great food and great drinks. Bessy made a great Cosmo and Irish coffee. It was fun spending the evening at the bar sharing stories. The rooms were so quaint and comfortable. My girls would have loved it! This place oozes with history and charm. The... More

My sons and I stayed at the Valiton in winter 2011. My expectations were in check so I really enjoyed the mystery, history and nostalgia. It's true that there is generally no caretakers or owners in the building at night...which was a bit creepy one of the nights since my sons stayed with friends in Breckenridge and I was literally...
