12 of us stayed in 5 different rooms in June 2011 for a family vacation. Rooms were decorated all different and unique. Bathrooms were clean & rooms were too, except housekieeping doesn't sweep under desk, end tables and you could see the dust on the carpet. Some of the rooms carpet was worn, time to update. Staff was friendly, breakfast... More

We just returned from a 2-night stay at the Strater and I must say that it was a highlight of our 10-day trip to Arizona and Colorado. I usually keep to more moderately-priced hotels but felt that this hotel might be worth the extra expense, and I believe it was. Since I'm speaking of the cost I should also point... More

We have friends that highly recommended the Strater Hotel. It was a really nice hotel. This hotel has a lot of history and we were walking around the lobby looking at everyhting when the bellman came up and asked us if we wanted a tour. He showed us hidden compartments and showed us the room where Loius Lamore wrote many... More

The Strater was built in 1887, and retains much of the flavor of the time. Period antiques abound, along with wall-papered rooms, including papered ceillings, period chandeliers, etc. However, the bath, though small, is modern. the rooms are not large by present day standards, but must have been at the time the hotel was built. The queen sized bed was... More

My husband and I stayed here two nights with my parents. In a nutshell, this hotel is like any number of historic hotels in the Rockies--relatively charming, but costing much more than they should for the level of service you get. We were first given room 221, a hobbit hole that is literally sandwiched between the creaky main wooden staircase... More

Dear Reviewer, We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations, and do understand your frustration with the room 221. We would like all reviewers and guest to know that we do continually refurbish, and upgrade our rooms on a rotating basis. In fact, many of our repeat guest love this room and find it charming. The Strater is a nice hotel, especially the lobby area. It has a gorgeous, well-maintained lobby and other common areas. The location is fantastic. You can walk anywhere. For the money, however, I did not think it was a good value. - It touts itself as being an authentic historic hotel. I do not believe that vinyl flooring was found... More

Very old charm and wonderful service. id reccommend it for fanilies who are planning on ridding the rail road train to Silverton.you are literally a block from the train station. Liked the old bar in lobby and the kids liked the down town shopping and fun things... More

This is a great hotel that truly takes you back in time - an escape for those seeking such a getaway. The property is of course very old but is EXCELLENTLY maintained throughout. I did not observe any area that was in need of repair. But this is NOT a property for those who desire very quiet accommodations because with... More

This is a beautiful hotel in the heart of a very pretty little town. We had great service from the staff, although I think the breakfast has been over-rated by previous reviewers. It was OK but not quite as mouth-watering as I had expected. The Sheriff's Lady insists, though, that I say how good the coffee was - easily the... More

Booked the locals deal for a night. Fantastic service and rates. Included a wonderful dinner and breakfast. Had a lovely standard room on the 3rd flood. Quite spacious and quiet. All was perfect. Great place just to enjoy.
