We chose this hotel mostly because it is located very close to the train depot. However, we also were attracted to the historical ambiance. Some historical hotels are great to relive the past but not always A+ for comfort. The General Palmer Hotel does both. The room was charming but with modern conveniences. It is easy to walk to any... Located right downtown, next to the train station and bus stop. Great rooms and staff. They bring your breakfast to your door at no extra charge, and the hotel is a great piece of history. This place is a must stay for any railroad or history fan!!!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The hotel and the rooms are beautiful! The room comes with a few little surprises like ambience music, cotton ball, q-tips, bath robes, normal size soap, etc. I was very impressed with the room. If you're a light sleeper I would recommend to stay in one of the inside... More

Started off with the bellman dragging our luggage over the bumper of our brand new Acura SUV giving us our first deep scratches on the bumper. Then the air conditioning did not work properly. At first, I was told it was fixed and the room would cool down shortly: then I was told the a/c repairman was on the way... More

The AC was too warm (after repeated complaints over 3 days.) The hot water was too cold. And the internet was too slow. Waay too slow.... Worst I've ever encountered in a US hotel. Go down the street and stay at the Strater. It's the real deal.

My stay at the Palmer couldn't have been better. The property is located on Main St. in the heart of the historic district and the ambiance was very relaxing. The shops and restaurants are within a short stroll along main. The rooms are decorated in Victorian fashion but all of the amenities have been modernized including free WiFi. Coffee and... More

The staff was warm and welcoming. The location was perfect for walking around the town with many shops and restaurants nearby. If you’re doing the train, the location is excellent and yes you will hear the train from the hotel. The freshly baked cookies in the afternoon are delicious. The linens, towels and other room furnishings added comfort to the... More

I really enjoyed this little hotel in the heart of downtown Durango. My family and I came to town to ride the train and this place was very nice. Before you book understand that the hotel was built well over a hundred years ago and builds weren't designed like they are today. The ambience was great and I liked the... More

Stayed four nights at this hotel, when I travel I look for the ambiance of the place and don't take off points for small annoyances, the reason I say this is that sometimes I read a review and I think, why didn't they just stay home if they are such unhappy people. How does this apply to the General Palmer,... More
