Two years ago, I was a guest at the Wilderness Trails Ranch near Durango, CO. As part of the dude ranch activities, the owners offered guests the opportunity to gas and shoot prairie dogs. Prairie dogs occupy less than 1% of their historic range, and scientists propose that some populations be listed as endangered. I respectfully expressed my disapproval for... more

Having stayed at another ranch last year we were a little worried that WTR would be able to live up to our expectations, IT DID, and surpassed them, The riding was brilliant, and the wranglers receptive and open to suggestions and requests, and happily altered the planned rides to fulfill our requests. They matched the horses very well to each... more

My friend megan & I had done alot of "lookng" prior to booking this ranch, and we kept coming back to it because of all the qualities it had offered. That is a under-statement, this place had more then we expected. As a horse lover and horse owner I do believe because we asked what we could do , besides... more

My mother treated her 4 children and grandchildren to the most amazing week at WTR. 18 of us (grandchildren ranged from age 4-20) had the "week of our lives". There is so much to share about WTR. First and foremost, the staff is incredibly warm, welcoming and customer oriented. The kids program is phenomenal. Our children cried themselves to sleep... more

Wanted a vacation out of our comfort zone but not uncomfortable. We found the cabins to be rustic but very welcoming. The food was surprisingly very, very good. The wranglers and crew staff were exceptional. Always helpful, attentive and engaged. We had a week of very rainy weather. In the evenings, there was little to do especially when outdoor activities... more

Our family has been visiting Wilderness Trails on and off since 1995. Each trip we have enjoyed our time at the Ranch. Our children started going as young as 3 and are now teenagers and still enjoy the week. Each time we make new friends and enjoy getting to know staff members and catching up with Roberts family. All and... more

This was my second time at the ranch and I had a great time, again. I think that the staff, the horses, the scenery and trails, the lodging and amenities are all terrific. People from all walks of life come to the ranch, and it is interesting to sit and talk with everyone. They have a wide variety of activities... more

Spent 5 full days with my family and we enjoyed the horses (if you like following single file on a trail you'll love WTR) there but also found the online ads to be deceptive. The food was not as advertised on the web......lunch was cold cuts, or make you own burrito/taco but with spicy meat and no cheese...salads often had... more

I am very sorry that these guests did not feel their stay at Wilderness Trails met their expectations. We strive very hard to provide an exceptional riding and dining experience. During our riding orientation we emphasize to our guests to let us know if they have any requests for particular types of rides or learning opportunities during the week. We...

We recently spent six nights and five days at Wilderness Trails Ranch ("WTR"). Although we had a nice time overall, our experience was tainted by a combination of WTR's failure to live up to the expectations (established on its website and in printed materials) and the high cost of the vacation. In short, we believe our money would have been... more

WTR is extremely sorry that these guests did not feel their experience matched their expectations. Thankfully they were pleased with many aspects of their vacation, but we failed in several areas, and recalling that week, I understand why. Dining--We lost our Head Chef the week prior. We brought in a temporary cook until our current chef began in July. Although...

2008 will be our 4th summer visiting Wilderness Trails Ranch, and will not be the last! The ranch is located in the stunning scenery of the Pine River valley, about an hour's drive from Durango, Colorado. It has been owned and run by the Roberts family for nearly 40 years and their great experience and care for their guests shines... more
