Del Norte is is located in south central Colorado's mountains. The Windsor Hotel was built in 1872 on the frontier of the western U.S. expansion. Today it brings history up-to-date with comfortable quarters and a very fine restaurant managed by credentialed chefs. You'll enjoy the casual and friendly treatment the owners provide and you'll sense the can-do efforts of energetic... More

Traveling in the area, we picked the Windsor because of the TripAdvisor reviews. For me to expound on the history of the hotel, the story of it being saved from the wrecking ball etc. would be very repetitive of the prior reviews. I did find it humbling to see a list of the donors that aided in making the restoration... More

We recently took a trip staying mainly at historic hotels rather than more modern ones. This is one of two hotels that earned our top ranking on the trip, the other being the Lake Yellowstone Hotel in Yellowstone National Park. The Windsor has been very nicely renovated over the last few years, providing a very nice lodging experience in a... More

The best renovated old hotel that I have visited. The room that I stayed was spacious, with a King size bed, large flat tv, and several comfortable chairs. Although the bathroom is small, with a corner shower, it was adequate and modern. Small things like new fixtures, updated stool (higher) are appreciated by us older visitors. The hotel had coffee/tea... More

We stayed overnight at this beautifully restored hotel in September 2014. We were met at the front desk by Steve and he graciously gave us the history of the hotel. The western charm and feel of the hotel was amazing. Our room was a king sized bed, large flat screen television and an up-to-date bathroom; very comfortable and plenty of... More

My husband and I were recently married at The Windsor and couldn't have asked for a more intimate, elegant experience. Kevin and the staff went out their way to provide all the amenities we needed and any last minute items we didn't know we needed! The food and drinks from Kody and Reagan were outstanding and all our guests raved... More

Last Dec., new to the area, we decided to try dinner in the dining room one evening. It was spectacular! As we lingered in the lobby admiring an exhibit of gingerbread houses, one of the owners, Steve, offered us a tour of the hotel. We took it! We vowed then to return for an overnight stay, for a special occasion,... More

Xenial (adj.) Hospitable, especially to visiting strangers or foreigners. The Windsor, has been lovingly restored to opalescent perfection. It's history and charm remain as if a breath of the old west had been blown down each corridor and onto every parlor. Cody, the Magnanimous Master of Mixology will astound you with bar-man-ship rivaling even the great Charles Schumann. In his... More

A friend told us we must stay at this hotel while on our trip to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. We said, "really, it's out of our way." He insisted and we finally agreed after he added some details about the amazing restaurant located in this hotel. Other reviewers have accurately described the hotel's history and beautiful renovation. Diners... More

The original hotel was built in 1875 and operated non stop, under different names and different owners, for 100 years. In 1975 family feuds and a major inundation caused it to be closed and left to die. In 1993 the hotel was scheduled to be demolished when a local doctor and his wife stepped in and saved it. A gradual... More
