The good: The castle and grounds were beautiful. The restaurant and food were awesome. The personnel were friendly. The countryside and nearby villages were gorgeous. The bad: because of bad hips and knees, I requested a first floor room and gave them notice (via two E-mails) two months in advance. I also researched the rooms and gave seven different room... We knew visiting in March could be chilly, it was some days, rainy too. But we had lived in Northern Italy 40 years ago for 18 months while working for Uncle Sam and were delighted to be back. The Castello was home base as we (4 of us) visited Pisa, Lucca, Venice, Seina, Florence, San Gimignano and Monteriggione. The last... More

Our trip to the Tuscany area was complete with our stay at the castle. Although our room was not located in the actual castle, we were given an efficiency with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms which was exactly what we wanted since we traveled with another couple!! The grounds were beautiful and the staff was very accommodating. I highly recommend... More

I will start my review by saying this is a castle it isn't a disney attraction! so it doesn't have all the hotel extra extras so firstly I don't think it should be called a hotel it's a castle where you can stay. We love this castle we stayed here 10 years ago for our honeymoon and came back this... More

Old castle but not ready for prime time. Had to trek up a driveway full of wet gravel..and then up flights of stairs with all the luggage. No service. Rooms are cold and paying for heat was a joke. Restaurant was small and non-functioning…..sign says "closed". Would never stay there again. Good thing we left each day for day trips... More

Found this castle as part of a package deal in December. The castle is charming and interesting but when the weather is cold, the rooms are cold – too cold for us. Heating was an extra 15 euro per day and was not able to keep up with the cold. One highlight was our deal included one evening meal which... More

Just returned from a week at Castello di Montegufoni. Excellent location for touring Tuscan area. Good value. Excellent help from reception. Couldn't have asked for a better apartment (La Grotto) - huge! We were two couples sharing the apartment. Two enormous bedrooms, two baths, small but well equipped kitchen space, large living room. Decent restaurant at the property - menu... More

Castello di Montegufoni is an interesting place to stay and very conveniently located to many places in Tuscany if you have a car. We booked through Great Value Vacations. It is definitely not your typical hotel but rather a collection of apartments so there is no daily housekeeping or 24 hour front desk staff. If you have a flight arriving... More

This place was incredible all around. The pictures did not do it justice as I was preparing to stay here for five nights. The staff was always willing to help if necessary. This place gives you a genuine Tuscan castle experience and is a wonderful value!

The vistas are right out of "Under the Tuscan Sun"! It is a quiet location with great walking access to smaller towns and bus or driver access to Florence and Sienna. Our apartment was well furnished and very comfortable, and the food at the castle's restaurant was wonderful, as was their wine! The grounds are lovely, and the pool is... More
