This place has all the charm you would expect from an 11th century castle. The convenience of this place was great to do many day trips and go into Florence. This place exceeded our expectations. Having bought this trip on Groupon we were not sure what to expect and were delighted to learn the history of the place. We had... More

We were offered an apartment at Montegufoni as the place we had booked was not acceptable. So it was a surprise to find ourselves in a real castle. The kids enjoyed the special atmosphere, playing in the gardens and off course the swimming pool. (Note: our actual visit was in May 2002. We re-visited in June 2015)

We (2 adults & 2 17yr old boys) from 12-19 August and stayed in the 2 bed cottage in the grounds. Actually its' in the middle of the car park! This was the only thing that detected from a fantastic stay and in hindsight i wished we had booked one of the apartments which are either in the main castle... More

I recently visited with a large group of friends and a couple that celebrated their 10 year anniversary by renewing their vows. They accommodated all 16 of us by giving us an entire wing of the castle and treated us like kings and queens. The food at the castle is delicious and many nights, we chose to eat there over... My wife and two teenaged boys stayed here for four nights in apartment 19 in early July 2015. The apartment accommodated 8, but the rest of our party could not come, so it was all to ourselves. We found the grounds and vistas absolutely breathtaking. Everything from the thousand year old floors, to the huge iron clad doors to the... More

This magnificent 12th century castle with gorgeous views of the Val di Pesa is certainly a place steeped in history. Formerly owned by the English aristocratic family the Sitwells who entertained the likes of DH Lawrence, William Walton and Princess Margaret, it was also occupied by the Nazis during WW2. Many of the priceless paintings from the Uffizi were stored... More

We, a family of four, stayed for a week in 'Il Tiglio' a 2 bedroom annexe about 50 m from the castle. The key to staying here is to know what to expect. There is no room service, no air-conditioning, it is a very old castle and yes, there are mosquitos. We loved it and it was perfect for a... More

After the car hire place sent us the wrong direction by two hours we found it only 40 minutes out of Florence. Wow was the first word! Truly amazing scenery and the cattle was great. Spacious rooms although lack of fans to cope with heat at night. Restaurant was great and we did a cooking lesson with them one day,... More

Just a very cool place. The grounds were beautiful. Four of us stayed in the Cupola. Beds were good . I don't know about other apartments but the pots and pans in ours were terrible the non-sticks [2] were shredded with Teflon peeling off. Bring a headlamp, the lighting is real basic .It does add to that " I'm in a... More

Enjoyed an authentic caste experience. Castello Montegufoni îs a 12th century castle with several room suites with kitchen facilities. Visitors should know there are lots of stairs and no elevators. But the beautiful grounds and the fabulous Tuscan countryside surrounding it more than make up for any lack of amenities.
