A group of food and wine enthusiasts took over all 4 rooms of the Union Inn for a weekend. The rooms were lovely, the included breakfast was excellent and we ate dinner at the Union restaurant both nights. The duck wing appetizer and lamb burger were two of the highlights in really tasty meals. The restaurant and hotel staff were... More

Others have already reviewed this hotel and their opinions are accurate. At least, the good ones are. We stayed in the Limon room with direct access to the balcony, a most enjoyable location for a glass of wine and a good book and which is accessible from all 4 rooms. But my appreciation is for the genuinely good people who... More

We stayed here for two nights recently on the recommendation of a friend. It's a great off the beaten place to stay while visiting Amador County. It's a bit of a drive to the Plymouth area if you are only coming to taste wine there, but if you want to stay in a place with character and to do other... More

Neighborhood bistro in our little village of Volcano, CA. They use seasonal ingredients in the dishes. Always attracts decent crowds for dinners. Chef/owner Mark is a gem. All our house guests get treated to at least one night's dinner here!!!

We drove a whopping 6.8 miles from home to celebrate our 4 year anniversary. We love the Union, eat there regularly. Food is FANTASTIC, staff are Wonderful! The bed was SO comfortable. Next time we will try the Limon room, this stay was the Terra Cotta Room. My husband likes our room to be at 60 degrees...thankfully we brought a... More

This review is for the Pub. Lovely garden setting in a quaint little town. We loved the Lamb Burger! It was worth a ride from the bay area just for lunch here. Weakened as we read the dessert menu and had to end this divine meal with a Blackberry Cobbler with a Cornmeal crust. Yum, can't wait to return.

While looking into their sister restaurant, Taste, in Plymouth, CA I noticed the mention of the Volcano Inn and Pub and thought we should give it a try. Very friendly staff who really want to make your visit enjoyable. The rooms are a little quirky, but comfortable. We had the Terra Cotta Room which has direct access to the balcony... More

We went to Volcano, Ca for the historical and were very pleased by the Union Pub Inn. The staff was friend and full of enthusiasm. The amenities and the room was wonderful even without the cell reception. Union Pub Inn is just off the main street so it was peaceful even with it's own pub.

We had eaten here once before and both time were impressed by the excellent quality of the food. We live in Alice Waters country and do not impress easily, even in our (all too few) stays in 5 star hotels. Salmon was moist and perfectly done, quality of hamburger higher than our usual high standards. We did find peach cobbler too... More

I love Volcano and have had a few good meals at the Union Inn, but when I looked into staying at the bed and breakfast, I thought twice about it because of the pictures of the rooms posted online. It's a shame, because the rooms are so much better than they look in those pictures, and I would have stayed... More

Welcome to the Volcano Union Inn!How The West Was Won Fun!Take the WILD RIDE to Volcano to enjoy great food, friendly faces and comfortable lodgingThe Union Inn Hotel was built in 1880 by four itinerate French Canadians for $400. It was a boarding house for hard-working miners and locals until the 1920's. It enjoyed a brief reawakening in the 1950's, and thereafter it was, by turns, vacant and empty, a private residence, and finally it was restored into a lovely destination in 2000 by the David/Burney Family. Now the Volcano Union Inn is reborn as a California Pub and Four-Room Bed and Breakfast in the picturesque village of Volcano, deep in the heart of Amador County and the California Gold Country. ... more   less
