It is obvious no expense was spared in restoring this historic hotel. Rooms are comfortable and roomy. We especially enjoyed the ofuro tub on the enclosed patio of our garden room. Beautiful gardens shared with the Blue Wing Saloon and Restaurant, owned by the same proprietors. Hand painted murals decorate the breakfast room. For breakfast we had the best crossants... More

We live in the Napa Valley about 1 1/2 hours from Upper Lake and enjoy a quick adventure away from our life here. We travel up the eastern side of Clear Lake stopping at the junk and antique stores in each of the small towns and spend the evening at the Blue Wing Cafe and the night at the Tallman.... More

Thank you for your kind words. We agree that our little town of Upper Lake has come a long way, and we are indeed fortunate that Mendocino National Forest is so close to us. There are also some nice walking and hiking trails fairly close to the hotel. Kayaking is an option as well! More

Ok, I lucked out with this one! I came to this hotel based on the recommendation of a friend, when I was in the area on business. And I will definitely return to stay here when I am in the area! This recently restored 19th century trading post building is well designed, beautifully decorated, and well appointed. In addition to... More

Just stayed one night but this is a worthwhile destination if you are traveling in the area. A recent (2006 I think) restoration of an old hotel, and restaurant, they have done a great job capturing the look and feel of a late 19th c hotel but with all mod cons. We stayed in a Lower Garden room in the... More

When overwhelmed or annoyed with the frantic commitments that keep you running: turn to the gracious experience that awaits you at the Tallman. We have the Tallman hand out map and photos of the hotel displayed on our desks to remind us - there is respite awaiting when we return, which we plan to do next weekend; our third visit... More

We were in town to buy wine and stayed overnight at the Tallman Hotel for the second time in three years. It was even better than we remembered! The restoration and interiors are meticulously period with the excellent addition of conveniently-placed outlets and lovely bathrooms. The Blue Wing Saloon, on the grounds of the hotel, has a nice neighborly quality... More

Stayed overnight at the Tallman Hotel recently for a special occasion. We live in the next county, but would be pleased to find a hotel this nice when traveling to any city. It is a truly beautiful renovation of the historic hotel by the same name, with carefully chosen details by the design team in both in the interior and... More

What a lovely find! A friend called to make reservations for us as we were sailing on Clear Lake. This is a historic hotel dating back to the 1870's with the abandoned livery stable next door. It has been restored to a "great hotel." Some of the rooms have balconies overlooking a lovely garden. If you want a treat, a... More

I loved almost everything about this special historic hotel in the hills and around Clear Lake, California. Exquisitely redone, everything about the interiors is lovely, soothing and comfortable. Many high-end touches without being 'snooty'. Very good taste in every detail and so unexpected in this very quiet location! The only drawbacks are the depressed area around the gorgeous lake, which... More

Lake County, an over-looked corner of northern California, is ideally located between wine country and the giant redwood forests, close to the Sierra's and California's beautiful coastline, north of San Francisco. We stopped in on a road trip from down south to the Pacific Northwest, but we were sorry that we didn't plan more time in this beautiful locale. The... More
