After a long, hectic day of travel, we landed in the middle of nowhere - and it was wonderful! Our family stayed in one of Cynthia's teepees and our kids loved it. After a long, cold winter, it was wonderful to throw off our coats and sit outdoors and enjoy a quiet, simple supper under the trees. Before supper, we... More

We stayed at the tipi for a different experience. The place is lovely and well designed. Not the cleanest but still quite nice. The tipis have heated mattress pads so we could stay warm even during cool nights (in the lower 40's). Loved walking thru the adjacent date farm in the morning and picking up fresh dates for breakfast. There... More

After 2 lovely weeks on the road in Nevada and California, this was the place we were most looking forward to staying. Three years ago we stayed in the cabins (also very nice), but this time we decided to try out the Teepees. A great place to stay for a long weekend, especially if you have kids. Explore the Oasis... We had a great experience in this hostel! Cynthia is a very nice host and she gave us very good tips about the Death Valley and the best places to get gas. We stayed in a home trailer, very cozy and super clean. The place was for 8 people but we had the room all just for us 3. Highly... More

Rather than camping in the heat this was the best place I found for the lowest cost to prep for our day in Death Valley. The hostel is made up of 2 mobile homes. We had reserved beds in the one with the kitchen but chose to stay in the other with the only other guest at the time (from... More

We thought we would try Cynthia's and were not disappointed. We loved the tipi's - ours was amazingly warm on a cold winter night. I don't think Cynthia's is for everyone, you must be a little adventurous, one woman had a great fear of the coyotes. You hear and see them, but they leave you completely alone. If you want... More

What can I say about staying in a tipi, other than it was an AWESOME EXPERIENCE! Husband & I visited Cynthia's for 2 nights and we were the only ones there (note that the tipis are located about 3 miles from the main hostel itself) so laying out under a canopy of stars on chase lounges while eating cheese/drinking wine... I found this desert hostel quite adequate. The rooms in the trailer were very clean and their appointments were very restful. The bunks could stand an addition of memory foam on the mattresses as mine was pretty hard - normal however for most bunkbeds. There are several trailers on the property which are either hostel rooms, or private rooms. There... More

We stayed one night in a teepee tent in the China Ranch date farm. It was just 3 of us and we had the whole wonderfull and rustic farm house for ourselves. The expierence of the desert night in oasis is magic and worth the price. Cynthia's breakfast was more than excellent, beautifully prepared and filling. We will be back... More
