I was travelling by myself to visit my daughter who lives nearby. I had the smallest/least expensive room and it was perfect! Breakfast was perfection on the days I had breakfast. The other days I just informed the host I would not be there and she supplied me with a more than adequate "continental" breakfast. A few times my daughter,... More

Right up the street from Norton Simon, a few miles from Huntington Gardens and Library, and away from the crowds of LA. Perfect spot for a quiet weekend. Breakfasts were prepared with thought and care. Rooms were spacious, although the plumbing was a bit challenging until you got used to it. We did not spend much time here, but conversation... More

What a pleasant surprise this place was. The room was very nice and the breakfasts each morning were outstanding. Julie was a delightful person and made time to talk to us about the place and the area. We will definitely come back next time we are in the area.

Swept away by Mrs. B Astride the Orange Grove Estates Oasis of calm, historic mark Her four storeys Appointed with style Her lofty porch with inner community disguised Surviving our desert ordeal, seeking the tree-lined corner On our charts As directed, to fall in line With the inn keepers' regulations There amidst the misty morning lawns Jogging on the balmy... If you are looking for some of the charm of historic Pasadena, then this is the place. The building is a classic Victorian mansion, built for the Bissell family (of carpet sweeper fame), with spacious common rooms and delightful individual bedrooms. It is one of the few remaining grand homes on what once was "Million Dollar Row." The breakfasts each... More

We always stay at The Bissell House when visiting relatives in Southern California. I grew up in So. Pasadena and was never aware of this beautiful house since the lush grounds hide it from sight of the streets. I discovered it when I was looking for B and Bs in the area and it is a treasure! The owners needed... More

I stayed one night on a girl's getaway in early April. We had the Garden room on the third floor and it was beautiful, nicely decorated. The gardens, large porch, and pool are also amazing and full of interesting plants. We walked a few blocks to farmer's market (on a Thursday evening) which was lots of fun, with music and... More

My husband and I, our three young boys, and my parents traveled 3000 miles exploring the country, and right before our return trip, we prayed for a place where we could really rest. The Bissell House was recommended by one of the locals, and it exceeded what we had hoped for. The property is on a noisy corner, but all... More

We had not stayed here before, but it definitely merits many return visits. We had the English Holiday Room, which was cozy and quiet. Juli's breakfasts are inventive and marvelous. Good location for seeing the area, too, although it's a bit hard to find initially because the address is on Orange Grove and the house actually faces Columbia. Excellent restaurants... More

We decided to stay here while taking our daughter around to see Southern California colleges versus a regular hotel. The tall trees around the home really made it feel like we were escaping from all the crazy noise and traffic that is Los Angeles. It was a real retreat. We stayed on the third floor, the Garden Room. The bed... More
