Wonderful hotel, great staff, cozy & comfortable, clean, with lovely free wine at 5 PM and free pastries from the BEST bakery (Basque Baquery on the plaza) each morning. Just DO expect it to be what it is: an amazingly located historical hotel, meaning that the walls are thin & windows allow a lot of street noise, esp. delivery trucks... More

You step back in time as you step in this hotel! The people were very nice and it is walking distance to several restaurants, shops, and historical sites. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Thin walls in this old hotel and a noisy early riser next door woke me up but I went out and explored. Really... More

It's my first time writing a review on trip advisor, but i had never been in a hotel where no one ever said "hi" to me or even bothered to say anything to me and my family until I stepped foot inside of Sonoma Hotel. During check in, the lady just asked for my credit card, I literally had to... More

Stayed here for one night, it has a fab location. Our room was nice, and we ate in the adjoining restaurant which was great. The only thing is that there is no soundproofing in the rooms, you can hear everything which is going on next door. Which isn't great when you want a lie in but are woken by the... More

The smell. It hits you when you walk through the door and follows you to your room and does not go away... smells a lot like a nursing home. This is a shame because the hotel itself is very charming: cool decor, comfortable beds, and just a staple of Sonoma's history. Very nice staff as well! But the odor was... More

The location is great. The staff have obviously been told not to talk to strangers as it was almost impossible to get a word out of anyone at the front desk. Not even a "Hello", "Good Morning", "Welcome", etc. We had to inquire about the wine hour and the breakfast--no information was offered. Wine hour consisted of half a bottle... More

Had the pleasure to stay at the Sonoma hotel in multiple rooms. Each have their own quirks which were fun to discover. My stay was very comfortable. Very friendly service, exceptional juice and pastries in the morning. Directly on the square and a great walk to many restaurants. I would definitely stay again!

My husband and I stayed in one of the regular Queen rooms for three nights in mid-September. As advertised, it's a historical building with a lot of charm, so if you're looking for a big-box type of experience, you won't find that here. No elevators, real keys, and a little bit of old building smell (but only in the hallways,... More

The hotel lives up to expectations. It has the character of an older establishment, but has been modernised where possible to make it comfortable. Set in an ideal location, the pastries and coffee for breakfast were also very well received.

Customer service was thoughtful and attentive. Room was certainly a bit "old school," but wonderful. It was great to be on Sonoma Square and all of its attractions. We also had dinner at the girl and the fig, which was delightful. A great place to stay as a couple.
