This quaint little motel is very old. They have the units in a horseshoe with a grassy area and patio furniture for the guests to enjoy the fresh air. The building has been completely repainted both outside and in. The room also had crown molding as well as fresh paint. The windows have all been replaced with dual pane to... More

If you're looking for the lowest priced accomodations in Solvang, the Viking Motel is probably it. But be prepared. Our king room ($91 including tax) while OK size-wise, was showing signs of age and wear. When I made our reservation about two months ago (we were in Solvang on a Fri. at the end of May), I was told there... More

My boyfriend and I wanted to go wine tasting for his birthday, but were put off by the expensive hotel rates in Los Olivos, Solvang, and the surrounding areas. After a lot of research, I discovered the Viking Motel. The Viking Motel is not luxurious, but it was a comfortable place to sleep for one night. The room was clean... More

After reading the comments, I admit I was a bit reluctant to book a room here. My grandparents and family settled in Solvang in the 1930's, and I generally have a free room. This time I was coming in late so I looked into booking a room. Aside from the most affordable option, the staff was extremely accommodating, arriving late... More

It was fine for what we paid. We got the very front room behind office on main street. I was afraid it was going to be loud, but once we closed the window it was ok. It smelled like smoke. A lot. (which is why they had the windows open I'm guessing) Room is small-ish, but if you're just going... More

I was very concerned about staying here after some of the reviews. We had no concerns. It is on the end of Mission, but within walking distance of the entire town. Got a coupon for a complimentary drink and Danish at the bakery down the street. Free wifi worked extremely well, very clean, and ac worked great. Tracy was extremely... More

we stayed here in a last minute search for a room after being let down by another motel. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Service was excellent, staff were helpful and welcoming. This was one of our favourite stops and we look forward to visiting again!

Its a MOTEL! What do you expect!?!?! I'm not sure what some reviewers are talking about. I only spent $54 for a place to sleep and shower. The rooms are clean and well maintained. Shower was well stocked with supplies and spotless. The manager has put in new flat screen, wall mounted TVs and large mini refrigerators. The free wi-fi... More

No better value for one of 13 rooms. my room had three windows, frig, microwave, store (across the street). New towels, comfy bed, new flat screen tv (room 5). Just shower, but window in the bathroom. Breakfast pass for coffee and huge cinnamon roll at famous olsens Danish bakery across the street. I checked out late at noon and went... More

We were given a room where the refrigerator was not cleaned out. Smelled up the whole room when it was opened. When I complained I was offered another room. The microwave in the second room hadn't been cleaned and had dried on egg!! The third room was finally reasonably clean, but when I took a shower I found the towels thread... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Viking Motel is part of the celebrated Danish culture in Solvang. It was originally built in 1920 by Danish immigrants and was called "The Little House." Over the years it has been a honeymoon cottage, a boutique and a doctor's office. The palm trees in front of the motel were planted in 1922. Today, the historic Viking Motel offers comfortable, affordable accommodations with a flavor of old world charm. Conveniently located, the Viking Motel is close to many of Santa Barbara County’s attractions including Solvang’s Scandinavian Shopping Village, the Hans Christian Anderson Museum, the Chumash Indian Casino Resort and some of the Santa Ynez Valley’s finest wineries. Hello, Viking staff and/or Tracy?

I believe you know my friend, Tami Emry, who has stayed there recently. She has just told me of the upcoming reservations on Monday

the 18th of Aug, staying through until Wed.or possibly Thurs.

I am very pleased about this! The timing is perfect! Life has been very challenging and difficult (divorce/separation last 6 months in a 25 yr marriage, facing back surgery; I am having to use a wheel chair because of pain. Okay, so, enough complaining! Ugh! ; - D,)

Tami also injured herself 2 weeks ago, broken/sprained ankle, fractured toes, toes, and all on her "GOOD " leg as she is disabled with the other leg!

She desperately needs a bath and some quiet, clean comfort in a regular bed with TV, ect. Just a little TLC for both of us for sure! This is just what the DR ordered.

I have a laptop and wondered about internet connection. It's not a huge priority, but just curious.

Also, will there be a microwave available by any chance? I want to bring coffee to make and just need hot water avail. And, for Tami, she needs a bath and I hope you have a room available with a bath? It's a must with her as she can not stand and shower at this time due to her disability and broken foot. I , too need a bath as my back is bad and I have constant, horrible pain when standing too long.

We are quite a pair! Money is tight, so we will bring snacks, drinks, water, and I wondered if the room also has a fridge? We both require ice packs, moist heat and elevation of our legs. I will bring extra pillows.

I thank you in advance if you are able to reply soon, tomorrow or Monday early morning. Thank you.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to seeing on Monday.

Sincerely,

Lisa Juliette Katnic
