Had a wonderful time staying with a big group of family members at the Glen Tavern Inn. The rooms are quaint and full of character, the lobby is fun with lots of unique touches from the past, we had a chance to have drinks at the bar, and the bartender was so much fun, and the restaurant is fantastic!

Not just on their website but on any other site where they advertise this hotel the Glenn tavern inn. They should add that this place is Haunted!!! And when I asked the staff about it if it was true about this place being haunted they laughed because I wanted my money back and wanted to cancel my stay. That is very unprofessional and they need to know how to take care of customers. That’s why the hotel industry falls into the hospitality category! And they were not that at all. If I would’ve known I would’ve never stayed there!! Plus this place is very outdated. Needs a lot of upgrading.

This hotel looks really cool, but my room had cracks and there were a bunch of bugs which i had to crush with a pillow! my room was as cold as an igloo and i'm allergic to cold! plus i kept hearing footsteps on a room that wasn't taken... can't explain that but still!

old and quaint, nothing worked, the door to room inside lock did not work, spotty TV and WIFI, shower door would not close and all registers on the floor were caved in. the place locks up at 10PM, the tube jets were wonky and look an hour to drain.

We had a funeral in Ojai and found the rates there exorbitant. Santa Paula was very nearby, so we checked the hotels there out. The Glen Tavern Inn was very reasonable, and, as a bonus, an historic property. Built in early 1900s, it was near the train station and became a mecca for Hollywood celebrities including John Wayne, Carole Lombard, Houdini and Rin-Tin-Tin, among others. The new owners, btw, are not sure which rooms they stayed in, except that Rin-Tin-Tin stayed in a suite. According to what I've read, the third floor of the inn started out as a gambling hall and brothel and was parted out into rooms later. We also heard that it is supposedly haunted. Our room was 219. Interesting features: no house phone; the bathroom is tiny, but works. You cannot be really fat to use it, though, the shower is about 2.5' x 2.5'. We think the bathroom was added in a remodel, there is a 4" step up into it and it is a big trip hazard. I would recommend reflective tape or lights or something, both my husband and I woke in the night and nearly killed ourselves tripping on it. (They have warnings all over the place about it but at 2:30 am who remembers that on the way to the toilet?). The closet has a deadbolt which you have to be INSIDE the closet to use. The bed has a pillow top on the mattress, but it is still rock hard. Hotel might look into memory foam for the beds, most of us are spoiled on those now. Downstairs is an Italian restaurant (new) but the lobby/front desk look right for the Craftsman era. There are framed movie posters, newspapers (Titanic Sinks) and photos on the walls in every hall. The third floor has a salon on the stair landing with sofas. The place is really quite charming with few drawbacks. Parking is in the back. The hotel sign on the street corner is obscured by trees, hard to find. We happened to arrive on a weekend where a number of streets were blocked off for a classic car show. The show was great but it was hard to find the hotel because of the blocked off roads. The hotel apologized for the confusion. ABOUT ROOM 220: First, we retired at 9:30, having had a very long drive. Woke at 11:30, some guy was talking. We drifted off, woke at 2:30 am, guy was STILL TALKING. We think he was talking to somebody else but couldn't hear anything distinct. Room 220, we thought he was in your room. We tapped on the wall. He didn't shut up. My husband pounded on the wall. He continued to talk. I dressed and headed upstairs to knock on the door above us as my husband thought sound was traveling through old air conditioning ducts. On the way I heard my husband bellow "SHUT THE F**K UP!' We apologize for the language. When I arrived at the room I thought was above us I heard the toilet flush. There was no more talking. So, room 220, if you thought it was a ghost, it wasn't. THIS INN HAS CHARACTER YOU WILL NOT FIND in any modern hotel or motel. And if you are more sensitive than we are, you might actually encounter a ghost.

I've stayed here 3 or 4 times and was under the impression that all the rooms were cool & charming but BOY did they prove me wrong. Some are tiny, stark and fugly. You're really rolling the dice by staying here now. The worst part about my room was a door joining mine & the room next door with a half-inch gap underneath it so you & your neighbors can hear each other like you're in the same room. This stay showed me what a busted-ass dump some parts of this hotel are, and I won't be going back. Especially after getting ripped off for over $120 to stay here - see my pictures. Also it's in a ghetto neighborhood and a lot of people drive by with their stereos blasting.

I chose this hotel last minute after planning a trip to Santa Paula to rescue a dog from the local shelter (two blocks from this hotel).  I booked my stay through Hotels.com the same day. When I arrived to the hotel, I already had my rescue pup in hand.  The hotel front desk staff was amazing. Polite and patient with me as I lost my first room key. The gentleman who checked me in recommended the attached restaurant called Enzo’s Italian Restaurant if I wanted to eat nearby.  He also told me there is a 20% off discount if you eat there while staying at the hotel. I was not charged any additional pet fee and was given a room for me and my dog.  I have never stayed anywhere that didn’t charge extra to have a pet, how rare and refreshing. My room was spacious and quaint! All old Wild West architecture and decor, loved it!  Although the look of the hotel is all old and decorated to match, I was pleasantly surprised that the room was very updated with technology! A mounted flat tv, with FULL Direct TV channels, including ALL the movie channels!!!!  The room also was climate controlled by a portable remote thermostat...so cool! I decided to dine at the attached restaurant, Enzo’s.  The staff, Hansel and Jesus were kind, helpful and very attentive! The food was fantastic and more than reasonably priced even BEFORE the discount. DELICIOUS! This random hotel that was close to where I was visiting in town ended up being like a mini vacation for me of comfort and convenience.   I would HIGHLY recommend and would stay again anytime! The Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC) staff recommend this hotel!

I'll start off by saying that we have been to the Glen Tavern Inn on several occasions and always enjoyed it until this last visit, but this last time was enough to make us never even consider going back. We stayed here for a quick Valentine's Day getaway. We were in our room, with the door closed, talking at a normal level and enjoying ourselves when around midnight someone starts pounding (yes, pounding!) on our door. I asked who it was and the voice on the other side boomed "night manager!". I opened the door and he proceeded to tell at me that there was a noise complaint and we need to keep it down, walls are thin, blah, blah, blah (again, we were speaking at a normal volume!). Ok, fine, whatever, but he came at me in such a hostile, aggressive manor, very confrontational, like he wanted to start a fight. I don't care what his problem was, if you're in the hospitality industry, you don't talk to people like that, especially after what we payed for the ridiculously overpriced room with no amenities. The plumbing made more noise, all night long, than we did! It's a beautiful old building with its own charm, but this jerk absolutely ruined our opinion of this place. What a shame. I won't spend another dime here.

We were on our way to Carmel by the Sea to go view the Lone Cypress at Pebble Beach. We took a detour, and discovered the beautiful quaint hotel. My husband and I are both from New York City, and we love hidden gems like this one. Everything about this place carries a very special place in our hearts since we found it. The staff is wonderful and we appreciate all the history this hotel offers. The restaurant has the best Italian food, and the best signature cocktails. We used to keep this place our secret hidden gem, but now we tell all our friends all about it. If you like history, charm, beautiful ambiance, and great hospitality, then this place will offer you a splendid stay.

At first glance, I thought, "I am gonna love this hotel" it's super atmospheric, with loads of cool historical artifacts and posters, 1930's music playing I mean what is not to love? Unfortunately from that first moment to the check out, this hotel did everything imaginable to lose my affection. Check in- what a freakin' nightmare. We got there early, so we had to wait, I get that.. but after being told, 30 minutes, then 45 minutes, then an hour then 2 hours and the afternoon wore on with us (and our two dogs) in the heat waiting and waiting unable to get a straight answer. Strike 1 Night Terror: OK I get that this is supposedly a "haunted" hotel, but at midnight the first night of our stay, my husband and I were awakened by a crazy screaming (and I sleep with earplugs) it was loud and persistent and crazy. Then voices in the hall, I looked out the door and saw armed police or security officers standing in the hall talking to the people in the room next door.. what the 'eff??? When things calmed down I couldn't get a straight answer about what was going on. I was told, nothing, armed officers called, drugs in a room.. and the next day the GM was clueless. Strike 2 Pet policy: OK this place is billed as dog friendly and we paid a big surcharge to have our dogs in the room which is standard and expected. But what we didn't expect was being double charged and told a made smelled feces in the hall and there was nothing they could do about it.. I mean isn't THAT what the surcharge is for?? Why charge double? I couldn't help but feel that the hotel was running a scam on us. When I went to speak with the front desk they were totally like "oh too bad so sad.. ". That was strike 3. After all of that I can not recommend this hotel at all and won't be back. The only good thing I can say is that one of the housekeepers was very nice.
