Stayed here in April 2014 on our honeymoon. The hotel is in a great location, close to beach and shops. The hotel is dated and needs updating. We had a number of issues when checking in, the security guard/ valet was extremely helpful though ( we were checking late at night). First room TV didn't work, we were offered straightaway... More

Upon arrival to Hotel Carmel the front desk staff member acknowledged that we had requested a wheelchair accessible room for my wife. Upon entering the room we noticed the doorway to the bathroom was too narrow for a wheelchair, there were no safety grab bars on the wall around the toilet or in the shower, no shower chair, and no... Dear Guest, I’m more than embarrassed and disappointed by your experience at Hotel Carmel and I can’t begin make up for all our missteps with an apology but you are certainly deserving of heartfelt and sincere one. First and foremost, the minute the room was not acceptable or workable for you with wheelchair needs, we should have immediately found you... More

During a recent trip to the Los Angeles area I wanted to stay in the Santa Monica area, which was familiar to me. For some reason, all my favorite hotels in the area were sold out. (Found out later it was Oscar weekend.) As a result I tried a hotel at which I had never stayed. The Hotel Carmel name... More

Thank you for staying with us at Hotel Carmel. I respect your opinions and was sorry to learn that noise was an issue during your stay. We do provide complimentary disposable earplugs when our guests need them. While I would agree the hotel’s historic state sometimes results in a perception that it is a tired hotel, I would disagree that... More

This Hotel is centrally located in downtown Santa Monica and therefore good for the pier/sightseeing and for shopping. The Hotel does not give you much for your money however with little in the way of breakfast or complementary coffee supplies and to add insult to injury the Hotel will charge you 17 dollars a day for parking! At current rates... More

Hello and thank you for your recent stay with us at Hotel Carmel. Thank you for mentioning our great location. We do not consider our valet parking fees to be adding insult to you. Our fees for valet parking are the most reasonably priced daily fees for a hotel in Santa Monica and there is no mandatory tipping required. All... More

Absolutley perfect location!! Has pick ups from local tour companies too so you don't need to travel far to go and do the "Stars Homes" or "Hollywood Sights" tours. The hotel itself has a wonderful selection of cakes and pastries for breakfast every morning, although you have to be quick!! Valet parking great, very prompt. Hotel is a little in... More

Location is everything and this was perfect. Traveling with 2 kids we got a family room which we didn't expect but loved. The kids had a seperate room! Clean, average size rooms, free coffee and pastries in the morning. Only negative was no free WIFI. Will stay there again.

We booked this hotel based on its location in Santa Monica. It's really close to the pier, the beach, bars and shopping. Also, it's a historic hotel, the rooms in the brochure looked nice and we were told that breakfast was included. We had a choice between this hotel and the Wyndham by the pier...they were both the same price.... More

Staff are helpful and nice. Room was small and looked dated but very clean. The location of the hotel and price cannot be beaten, you can walk to either end of the city comfortably. Great value for money!

Me and my husband stayed in Hotel Carmel for two nights Saturday and Sunday. Our room was on third floor and it was facing to the street between 2nd and 3rd streets. Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
