The location and price for this hotel are very good, the room......not so much. We knew before we booked this hotel that the room was not going to be great and we were only staying one night and would hardly be in the room. The location to the beach, pier and shopping was great! And cheap (only $17 for valet... More

We travelled with two teenagers and were expecting one room with two large beds, when we arrived, about noon, our room was already cleaned and we were thrilled to discover that what we received was actually two separate rooms accessed by one entrance. One room with two queen size beds and one with one king size. Perfect! The rooms are... More

Excellent location of this great Hotel. Amongst the bars, restaurants, promenade and close to the pier. Very nice rooms with every amenity catered for. The staff were welcoming and helpful and a reasonable price. Would stay again. Highly recommended.

It was so old. It almost seemed eery and haunted. The rooms need a serious reno. no mini fridge...ice machine on main floor only..mold on the bathroom ceiling. At least the staff were friendly but the rooms were too small and cramped. no room to move or put your suitcases.

Thank you for staying with us at Hotel Carmel. I'm sorry your perception was that our hotel was old. All our guestroom furniture, beds, carpeting, TVs etc are in very good condition so I'm not sure what we would exactly renovate. Because of the historic nature of our building, there are limitations on some of the sizes of our rooms.... More

This hotel goes above and beyond in my opinion. We arrived early off an international flight they first offered to keep our bags (9.45am) and find us a room asap. Well by the time my hubby had gone to the bathroom to change they had found us a room in by 10am WOW. The staff were all absolutely fabulous and... More

stayed here with a friend.. great location, very close to the pier, beach and third street promenade which has shops and restaurants. Rooms were a little tired and could do with an update but overall we didn't have a problem. The staff were so helpful and friendly, especially Leo who helped us greatly when we were checking out. The staff... More

We stayed here for 3 nights on a wedding trip. The room size was OK but it needed some relatively minor improvements. This is a historic building, or so we were told and in its way quite quaint. The front desk staff seemed to have worked there a long time and were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Nevertheless, beware of the... More

Thank you your review of Hotel Carmel and your four bubble rating. I really appreciate your positive feedback about our front desk associates. I actually don’t completely understand your comment about our doorman. I assume he was referring you to a local taxi service. Taxies are very expensive in general in Los Angeles so I’m sorry if perhaps our recommendation... More

Great location for shopping, restaurants and the beach. Staff were friendly. However the hotel owners need to upgrade the plumbing especially the drainage, the bathroom basin and shower never completely drained after use. Also maybe double glaze the windows? We had our worst nights sleep here during our USA holiday (this was our last stop). The noise was incredible, non... More

Situated 5mins from the beach and 2mins from all the main shops in the area this hotel’s location is excellent. We stayed 3 nights in this hotel which we fairly enjoyed. This is a nice small hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The lobby is small without feeling confining. The room was a good, basic hotel room. Instead of a breakfast, they offer a coffee and pastry service each morning. The best thing about this place is that it is only a 2-5 minute walk to the Santa Monica pier &... More

Thank you for choosing Hotel Carmel for your recent visit. I am sorry to hear that the live music down the street could be heard from your room. We do provide complimentary ear plugs at the front desk for such unfortunately unavoidable instances, but I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay, regardless. Thank you for mentioning that... Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
