I loved my stay at the Hotel California over MLK weekend. Many a conversation was had about whether it was the 'original' Hotel California (and no, I won't go into that philosophical discussion here! It is a good conversation point, though). Very kitschy; our room had a framed kid's wetsuit from 2004! (????) Great location--it is a quick one or... More

I recently stayed at the Hotel California with a friend. The staff in the reception was exceptionally friendly, all of them. I liked their service of providing tea/coffee and bananas :) Our room was lovely. We had a bathtub, an opening out back to a couch, a big screen tv, a safe, and very comfy beds. The location is hard... More

I recently stayed at the Hotel California in Santa Monica for three nights on a business trip. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The hotel is a very unique place to stay in Santa Monica. It has a cool beach vibe and a lot of history. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The beach and... More

This hotel has a really great location and for the price, you cannot really argue with that. It's not the most luxurious accommodation but its clean and has a nice, surfer, old school motel vibe. A great choice for a short stay in Santa Monica( we stayed over New Year, and enjoyed a couple of Santa Monica bars). We did... More

My friend and I stayed at The Hotel California for 4 nights this January 2016. I am not usually one to complain nor do I have an agenda, however just wanted to let other travellers know what this place is like before booking a stay here… The floor was completely filthy, you could not wear bare feet around the room... A gem that has kept the best of the past, refurbished to its former glory and above all, well maintained. Of course, it is a genuine old motel that also has its flaws such as sound proofing not being up to present day standards thus sounds travel easily. To request a room away from Ocean Boulevard is likely a good... More

Ger, Glad we were able to take you back to the good old days. We try to keep our hotel a small slice of the past, buried under the hustle and bustle of the now booming Santa Monica area. We'll be sure to keep it old school that we are always the place you choose when you are visiting the... More

This is a funky little hotel right on Ocean Ave. less than a quarter mile from the Santa Monica Pier. Its theme makes you hum a very familiar Eagles song and the rooms are basic but quite nice in many ways. Although we were close to the action along Ocean Ave. it was very quiet and comfortable. Top notch bedding... More

Funky is a great word to describe our hotel! We also add that funk to our service while trying to create a unique bond with each of our guests. It's awesome to see that you realized our great value compared to the surrounding Santa Monica hotels. Our goal is to provide a laid back and fun experience, while not "nickel... More

Ok, so it's a little tired, but the rooms are large, the beds are heaven, the shower is strong, the staff are friendly and it's clean. Add to this it's amazing location at half the price of the surrounding hotels and you can't go wrong, charming and comfy. Would definitely stay again.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
