Just got back from the Fairmont where I spent one night for a wedding I was attending. I have to say I was very disappointed. This place is not cheap, so I expected my stay to be excellent. Well it wasn't. First of all the hotel is definitely dated. The room while clean, feels old & musty. I went downstairs... More

We stayed here two nights...we were here also one year ago. This is a fun, attractive hotel - beautifully decorated, "across" from Santa Monica Beach... across from - but you have to cross a busy road, walk through a bit of a park, walk across a large highway walkway and walk for quite some time across sand to get to... We stayed at the Fairmont from July 18-22 and it was wonderful! The hotel is set back so it is very quiet you feel like you are at a resort not in the middle of Santa Monica! We had a suite in the older part of the hotel which was very big and nicely furnished. It was only a few dollars... More

When I am in LA I have stayed in Santa Monica/Venice area ever since a cab driver in early 1990's told me to stay here instead of Beverly Hills. Of all the Hotels I have stayed at (see list below in order of rating) the Fairmont is #1. My biggest complaint is I wish I found it sooner. Service, Rooms,... More

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the end of June, it is located approximately 5 minutes walk from the end of the 3rd street promenade and is a great location to take the steps down to the beach. The rooms are large and very well kept, we had a balcony with 2 chairs overlooking the pool with... More

We can't figure out why people didn't enjoy this hotel. It was absolutely lovely and we felt like royalty the whole time we were there. Never once did we have to wait for anyone or anything. The atmosphere was beautiful and the hospitality is what a 4-star should be. Everyone from the bellhops to the concierge to the room service... More

We stayed here for 4 nights over the memorial day bank holiday weekend. The hotel is located in a fabulous spot across the road from the beach and 2 minutes from 3rd st, shops etc. The hotel itself is in good condition with good rooms of average size. Our room was not fitted with an individual safe (some are -... More

The reception and bell staff are very nice, as it the giant tree in the front garden. The reception staff try and get you to upgrade and we did - we already had a bungalow but they offered one with a small terrace. However it took two days for the garden furniture cushions to turn up. They leave a breakfast... More

My 3 night stay at the Fairmont was lovely. I would highly recommend a Deluxe Ocean View Room located in the Ocean Tower on the 10th floor. The rooms offer sweeping city and Pacific coastline views and private balconies. As mentioned in so many of the previous reviews, the location of the hotel cannot be beat (and I adore the... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
