I originally posted that jewelry was taken while staying here but have found it. I am sorry for this mistake on my part. The room was fair (carpeting was not very clean and there was a hole in the ceiling where a vent fan belonged over the stove...was worried about critters coming in there) and the staff did not handle... Stayed here from July 7 to 11, by a friend's recommendation. Amazing location in Santa Monica, and great value for the money, right a block away from 3rd St. promenade, and a block from Ocean avenue / beach. Got a suite, 3 adults and 1 child, could easily fit more people in the suite, very spacious (2 double beds in... More

I stayed here because it is a short cab ride from the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center and I could get a room anywhere near Santa Monica for less than $300 per night. I ended up spending less than $200/night for a clean, well maintained but older property just a few short blocks from the beach! I arrive late at... More

It was a huge apartment, with real closets and a full kitchen. If you like retro, you'll really like this place - real keys for the doors, windows that open with winding mechanisms. Located remarkably close to the beach for the price - although on the map it looks even closer (there's a big cliff, and you need to walk... More

Good value for money in Santa Monica compared to other accommodation. We had a huge lounge/dining room and bedroom. It was almost too big for the two of us! It would've been great for a family. Very close to the beach, the shops etc. We didn't use the pool, but it looked nice on a hot day. We would stay... More

The hotel is a converted apt building. It's a bit older, but still clean and great location. There is no air conditioning so we slept with the windows open. Unfortunately, Thursday was garbage day so we were woken up early. The staff was very friendly. Parking costs $18/night and WIFI is also extra.

Staying at the Cal Mar was what I imagine visiting Santa Monica must have been like in the 50s or 60s. Large spacious suites with kitchens surrounding a shaped pool with palm trees and tropical plants. You enter the courtyard and pool area and escape the frenetic activity of the city. And after a day at the pier or the... More

The suites are nice but so many things were BROKEN!! I can not get a hold of the manager to save my life, and the receptionist will not take my information to have him call me back. The coffee pot, TV, and DVD were all broken. For 300 bucks a night this is insane!!

I travel to Santa Monica to visit my family several times during the year. The Cal Mar is my go to place for extended stay. Its a great location within walking distance to to the promenade, beach and the farmers market. I like getting up in the am and not having to go to a restaurant for breakfast. Yes the... More
