Terrific location- right on the beach. Easy walk to the Santa Monica Pier, the beach, parks, shopping and dining. Beds were very comfortable, beach towels & beach bag provided as part of room, staff was nice, interior courtyard a friendly place for the family to gather. Drawbacks- rooms were a bit small, housekeeping came by late in the day, had... More

We stayed here for the last 2 nights of our month trip away. It is literally across the road from the beach and about a 5-10 min walk to the pier. It's about a 20 min walk to Santa Monica shopping mall and it's all flat so it's a great location. Dogtown cafe is a block behind the hotel which... More

The hotel has a very good location which is by the ocean and walking distance to 2nd and 3rd street. There is free wifi. Rooms are very small and we were expecting sea view but there was not. Relatively expensive. Santa monica is a small city and as long as you are at the center ocean side is very close... More

The parking was $28 a night. We were only there one night. We walked to the pier and the next day had some lunch. I did like being near the Ocean. Wonderful breeze. There is a late night diner we took a taxi ride to. The staff is helpful, and the bed was clean. It is more like an apartment... More

I would recommend and certainly return on my next trip! The room could have been in a b&b at the Cape, the Hamptons, Santa Barbara....it was perfect for my needs and a delight at the on the beach location, yet pulled back from the "Promenade nightlife". Also, very easy access to local stores i.e. CVS, Whole Foods in case you're... More

We stayed here for one night as part of a road trip. Initially rather worried as didn't look particularly glam on the outside, and the reception was locked with no note or mention of why. But after a ten minute wait the receptionist returned and let us in. The room was functional, clean and tidy with everything you needed. The... More

The Bayside is a wonderful spot for a Santa Monica vacation. The rooms are small but very tastefully decorated, and some even have small kitchenettes. All rooms either face the ocean or a quiet courtyard with lounge chairs. There is off-street parking and plenty of street metered parking. Rooms have small patio tables and chairs for the morning outdoor cup... More

My husband and i originally booked 2 nights here, but travel issues whittled it down to 1 night. The room was very clean and bright and the kitchenette (which we did not need or use) had a full refrigerator, high top table and was very nice and the bathroom was roomy, clean, and updated. Our issues were: The lobby was... More

Booked here because of location. Old beachside motel, but clean. Cannot beat the location! Just across the street from the beach. If you are looking for a beach place to stay for a couple of nights without breaking the bank, this is a good choice. Rooms are sparse but all that is necessary and quite updated. Hotels in the area... More

We thought the room was nice. Nothing fancy but clean. Has a super small deck out front (2nd floor) to watch the beach. Thought the price was expensive but overall decent place to stay. I wish they had more hooks in the bathroom to hang towels and clothes though.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
