We stayed here for one night as part of a road trip. Initially rather worried as didn't look particularly glam on the outside, and the reception was locked with no note or mention of why. But after a ten minute wait the receptionist returned and let us in. The room was functional, clean and tidy with everything you needed. The... More

The Bayside is a wonderful spot for a Santa Monica vacation. The rooms are small but very tastefully decorated, and some even have small kitchenettes. All rooms either face the ocean or a quiet courtyard with lounge chairs. There is off-street parking and plenty of street metered parking. Rooms have small patio tables and chairs for the morning outdoor cup... More

My husband and i originally booked 2 nights here, but travel issues whittled it down to 1 night. The room was very clean and bright and the kitchenette (which we did not need or use) had a full refrigerator, high top table and was very nice and the bathroom was roomy, clean, and updated. Our issues were: The lobby was... More

Booked here because of location. Old beachside motel, but clean. Cannot beat the location! Just across the street from the beach. If you are looking for a beach place to stay for a couple of nights without breaking the bank, this is a good choice. Rooms are sparse but all that is necessary and quite updated. Hotels in the area... More

We thought the room was nice. Nothing fancy but clean. Has a super small deck out front (2nd floor) to watch the beach. Thought the price was expensive but overall decent place to stay. I wish they had more hooks in the bathroom to hang towels and clothes though.

Hard to ad much more to the 369 reviews at my writing but this is a reasonably priced alternative to much more expensive places just steps away (think Loews, Shutters, etc). While the ambiance isn't up to those hotels standards I like having a kitchen. Room 211, while not ocean facing is actually quite spacious and pretty quiet. Nearby are... More

We've stayed at the Bayside Hotel during our visits to Santa Monica over the years. Our previous stay had been in 2006. They have since renovated the guest rooms & patio. We always book a oceanview room with a kitchen. I recommend the 2nd floor rooms since the 1st floor rooms are noisier. The hotel lacks sound insulation - so... More

great location near the beach and easy 30min to LAX. Our room was small and bed very creaky but reasonably priced compared to some of the other options in the same area. Great spot for a night or two, staff friendly and accommodating.

Excellent location, fair enough hotel. As a hotel itself, it is overpriced. You pay for the location. Few steps to the beach, less than 10 min walking to Santa Monica Pier, 15 min to 3rd St Promenade, few blocks away from bars and restaurants. Rooms are just Okay. Parking is charged at US$28 a day. It is a good option... More

I am here for the savings and proximity of where I need to be for work. That's it. I am listening to a herd of elephants in the room above me because the walls are paper thin. There's also a hacking cough next door. The grips in the tub are black, the room has obviously been a smoking room even... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
