Great location, excellent value, clean, plenty of showers, room was spacious compared to other hostels I've stayed in with plenty of storage, very secure, fantastic facilities and good breakfast - we really couldn't fault this place at all. They even had fresh coffee in the room - felt more like a budget hotel than your typical hostel.

I'm a Scottish exchange student studying in Louisiana. Having travelled the West Coast with some friends over the winter break, we had a very enjoyable 4-night stay in Hi Santa Monica over the Christmas period. The hostel had plenty of cooking and recreational facilities that we took full advantage of. The hostel had events for guests almost every night that... More

I stayed for two nights in September and only really used it for a bed, but the facilities were good and the location was excellent, close to the beach and close to the shops and buses. I definitely recommend

Stayed at the hostel for 3 nights. Made some good friends, best location and yummy breakfast. Front desk staff are very helpful. I stayed in the girls dorm for the 1st night before moving to mixed dorm to be with my friends. Hostel is clean, modern and safe!!

This hostel is right in the heart of LA, Santa Monica which is a relatively safe place to stay. Staying in Santa Monica you'll also be brushing shoulders with some of LA's wealthiest and greeted every morning on the sea front (which is 2 short blocks away) by Ferrari's, Lambos and many exotic cars. It's also right next to a... More

Good hostel, brilliant location! Rooms could do with an upgrade, but the facilities are great, lovely courtyard, little cinema room and nice big kitchen and dining area. It is right next to the beach, and close to lots of restaurants, shops, the pier etc. I recommend going to Venice Beach and Malibu. The hostel arranges nights out and trips which... More

The hostel is two blocks from the pier, its clean, the staff is really nice, they are even doing small talk on a busy day. The rooms ( I saw) are spacy, there is a lot of glass and nummerous opprtunities to explore Santa Monica, Venice and LA If you have a rental car, you might have a problem finding... More

Chatting with people from all over the world is one of the biggest perks of working or volunteering for Hostelling International. Parking can definitely be a hassle on weekends! That's why we typically recommend forgoing a car completely and exploring on foot, or even better, on bicycle! We'll actually be offering more bike rentals when summer rolls around and there... I hesitated staying at a hostel but because of the great reviews and that I was going to spend most of my time outside, I decided to book it. I was in one of the largest rooms with 8 beds for 4 nights. All beds were occupied most of the nights but all the guys were very respectful and quiet.... More

You bring up a great point, Giles9999. You can't always judge a place by it's online reviews. Personally, we love talking to you guys and hearing your feedback but sometimes you've definitely just got to take the plunge and check a place out to form your own impression! We want to thank you not only for giving us a chance,... More

Stayed here in July 2014 for 4 nights. It was expensive enough compared to other hostels, but totally worth it. Location was brilliant, a short walk from Santa Monica Pier, and all of the shops and restaurants on 3rd Street. The dorms and bathrooms were absolutely spotless. Stayed in an 8 bed female dorm, each bed had a large locker,... More

It's true, the hustle and bustle of the Santa Monica streets can definitely carry on until late at night. Especially on weekends! We actually offer ear plugs at the front desk, be sure to grab a pair the next time you stay with us. We really enjoyed reading your review and we look forward to seeing you again the next... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
