The hotel is close enough to walk to Wilshire or Santa Monica Avenue shops and restaurants and yet tucked away so its quiet and it doesn't feel like a business hotel. It's lovely inside, the rooms are spacious and comfortable - I really enjoyed staying there - it was a surprise to me - I expected something less and I... More

This hotel is under construction. There is no lobby, and you have to check-in in the garage underneath the hotel (down a steep driveway). The rooms have thin walls and I the guests next door were easily heard. Overall with construction they should just close until they are ready to re-open.

The entire lobby is under construction and some of the rooms. It starts at 8am and it's pretty loud, it was hard to work. Room is clean but bed is super firm, I had problems sleeping. Front desk seems disorganized

A recent Super Bowl weekend in Santa Monica had me staying at the Ambrose, which is under renovation and expansion. Despite having to check in through the garage, the staff couldn't be more friendly despite the adversity caused by the construction. And Chad, their driver who taxis you out and about into downtown, was a delight ready with recommendations for... More

- I understand there were going through construction (which is cool), and the occasional noise and dust is fine. However, they had to do this one particular construction work that was almost overbearingly loud (you couldn't stay in the hotel lest your ears will hurt) for the majority of the day, and they gave me a notice by slipping in... There was no warning that the first floor is completely under construction. The check in has been moved to the vestibule next to their parking garage. The check in process was tediously slow, only one person could be helped at a time and I had to wait nearly ten minutes to leave the building in the morning because the construction... More

This is a great boutique hotel. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. Yes they are renovating at the moment, but the work does not begin until 8am. If there for vacation it may be an issue, but if staying for business you are usually up before it begins. The temporary lobby in the garage is a little weird, but really it's... More

Staff is friendly but they don't seem equipped to handle someone that travels frequently. Room has old tvs, limited room service and lack of amenities on premises. In addition, they were doing construction on the entire first floor during my stay, which I was unaware of until I got there.

Despite the building works on the first floor lobby, I had a very relaxing stay. The hotel informed me beforehand of the construction, so I knew what to expect and didn't mind. After all, one tends to spend more time in the room than in the lobby, and the rooms at the hotel are especially spotless and airy, a pleasant... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
