Perfectly situated on the beach. Good size beautiful room and very comfortable bed, very well decorated with a beach relaxed feel. Restaurants very good food and perfect location not too pricey. Would have no problems recommending this hotel to any discerning traveller.

There are some serious flaws with this hotel, but I will begin with its strengths. A fantastic location right on the beach (a short bike ride to Venice beach and the boutiques of Abbot Kinney), a stylised smart 'New England' aesthetic, some stunning rooms with brilliant beds and a great cafe beneath the hotel. We stayed at Shutters as part... More

The hotel, located right on the wide beach in Santa Monica, near the famous Ocean Park pier, is a lovely setting for a special occasion. In this instance, a 50th anniversary brunch was held in an oceanside room for about 60 persons. The setting, food, and service were all excellent and highly recommended.

We were a little apprehensive booking at The shutters as we had read some rather scathing reviews . On our arrival our room wasn't ready for 2 hrs .... So we were offered a few drink Once in our room everything changed and couldn't be better

I like this concept of Hotel. It gives you a sense of classic modern wit european accents. If you prefer something elegant and classic, yet very chic this i the place to go., Rooms are nice and the restaurant terrace is pretty as well. This is my firs choice to stay in LA if I don't mind stay at Santa... More

We had expected this to be the highlight of our California road trip - given we were paying €800+ per night and the ratings we had seen before we booked. Ouch! I have never encountered a less motivated and unenthusiastic bunch of staff. The concierge function, in particular, had seemingly no interest whatsoever in helping guests - either pre-arrival or... The hotel itself is beautifully decoratedl. The location is great but for the amount of the rooms (almost $800 / night with all taxes ect), we didn't feel we should be "nickel and dimed' for internet and parking. Our room was extremely damp. I'm not sure that is true for all the rooms. One Pico restaurant is over priced and... More

On our check-in the couple next to us were told Welcome we are happy to check you in early as your room was ready. He proceeded to tell them the exact room as ours was ready. We were not so lucky and were told they would call us when it was. 4 hours later we had heard nothing so we... More

Dear Mz_Jd, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your room did not meet your expectations, however, the room category you booked (Superior Room) is the type you received. When possible, we always try and allow for early check-ins, as was the case with the guests you described next to you. We would be happy... More

Stayed at this hotel for a weekend getaway. The room that I was assigned to was right by the street and because of the noise from ppl on the street and from a machine (generator?), I was awake at 5 am. I request for a new room. The second night was quiet till 3 am. At 3am, the fire alarm... More

Dear JC4216, Thank you for joining us on the beach and sharing your comments. My sincerest apologies for the fire alarm. Although the source of the alarm was investigated and determined to be non-life threatening, it did function as it is required to by the fire code. I certainly understand how frustrating interrupted sleep can be. Obviously I wish I... More

The location was superb and the staff excellent. The house car (tesla) was a lot of fun! The cocktails at the bar were great but.... there was a lot of construction. Ignoring the construction, it can only be described Fred Perry's Beach House.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
