We stayed 4 nights with 3 nights costing over $800 and fourth night costing over $1000. We were prepared to pay this for what was described by friends as a classical, older hotel with charm. We booked a room with sea view and balcony. What they omitted to tell us about was the building site just outside our window, between... More

Me and my girlfriend visited shutters today and I have to say that the staff was really polite and accommodate us to the terrace. We got few glass of rose wine, and one mojito. Then I got linguini Alle vongole really good eventhought they brought us tagliolini instead of linguini pasta. We got a crab salad so fresh and tasty... More

My husband and I really enjoyed our recent stay at Shutters. The location is ideal right at the beach and the bike trail. We walked to lots of great restaurants, and shopping at Third Street. We rented a car for a day and had lunch in Malibu but other than that we stayed and explored all the beauty of Santa... More

Shutters on the Beach is my "go to" hotel for business trips to LA. Very convenient to LAX, so an easy starting point no matter where my meetings are. And it's ON the beach. Not near the beach, but ON the beach. As long as Jonathan is at the front desk to greet me, and Daniel is at breakfast to... More

Shutters is such a great place. Location is perfect at the beach but also close to shopping in Beverly Hills. Pool area is old style luxory and feels like Meditertanean beach club. Restaurants are all great. Rooms very comfortable and service is good.

The tag line on the website states "Shutters, nothing standing between you and the sand." This is not the case. The hotel is located in a very busy public setting with a busy bike/walking path separating the hotel from the sand and a totally awful water hazard. The water hazard is really horrible and ruins most views of the ocean. Its... More

The main attraction of this hotel is its location at the Santa Monica Beach. However, there is an increasing list of significant detractions. The cluttered outlay of the building and of the rooms is an old and tolerable problem and could be fixed only by a major renovation. More significant is the decline of service that has taken place over... More

A long weekend in SoCal was just what we needed. Shutters did not disappoint. The breakfast in the morning at the hotel was refreshing. The waiter had just the right mix of easy going / professionalism. The hotel remains unchanged thru the years but that seems comforting. Anytime you are in Santa Monica drop by for a few days or... Our family stayed here and loved the beachfront fun! The pier is within walking distance and great bike riding. AN old fashioned arcade, roller coaster and other rides kept my kids busy.Skate boarding and biking along the beach was fun. Close to the airport too.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
