We were saving Shutters as a special treat near the end of a long trip. We rather wish that we had saved our money. We can't really see what the hype is about. It went wrong from the start. We had two "superior" rooms that we asked to be interconnecting. The second had two beds. We suspect that this was... More

Absolutely love this property. Literally on the beach so you can walk to the Pier or the Ocean. The beds are SO comfortable. Service is above and beyond. And the food is so good. (Drinks at the pool are pretty fantastic too.) Always hoping they have availability when I come to LA - definitely my favorite hotel and location.

The above warning is not of my own making but hangs at the entrance of this hotel. The full text of this rather strange warning is as follows: "Warning This Facility Contains Chemicals Known To The State of California To Cause Cancer, And Birth Defects Or Other Reproductive Harm. A Brochure With More Information On Specific Exposure Is Available At... More

Stayed at Shutters because my husband heard it was the best hotel in Santa Monica. It isn't the commercial holiday hotel but it is definitely a home from home. The fabulous reception/lounge area with huge sofas and real fire place is immediately welcoming. The balconies are small but we didn't have time to spend out there anyway. It is perfect... More

Commanding one of the few oceanfront hotel locations in Los Angeles, Shutters provides a unique experience in Los Angeles. The design is beautiful and refined, verging on mature. The rooms are lovely and has fabulous, thoughtful details such as decks of cards and books to keep you entertained. The pool area looks out onto the ocean - perfect for relaxing... More

This hotel has a great location but bad service and lack of attention to details. Tiny balconies, no hooks/racks for towels/ beech wear, not enough shampoos/conditioners and other supplies for everyone. All the shelves in the room are covered with some unnecessary decorations which leave no room for your personal items. It didn't even occur to the housekeeping to bring... More

Staid in a premium room immediately facing the boardwalk and sand. It was a riot to sit on the small balcony and watch the people, and one night a wedding right outside our room. Surprisingly quiet at night given how close you are to the foot traffic of the boardwalk. Our room price included things like bike rentals and beach... More

My husband and I had a perfect weekend at Shutters! The service was exceptional, the entire staff was friendly, and took great care of us. The restaurant, 1 Pico, was outstanding, the food was delicious and again, the service wonderful. The pool deck was lovely, had a great view of the beach and the servers came by frequently to check... More

Excellent hotel. It was everything we wished for - beautiful rooms, great service, excellent dining experience, wonderful pool and right on the beach with easy access the to the Pier. Loved this hotel and the rooms were so nice yet cozy with great books and décor. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Everything was wonderful!

I visited this hotel in January for my husband's 50 th. The experience was so awful that I couldn't bear to write this review until now. This was a special holiday and I had researched hotels a lot as I wanted it to be very special. This looked perfect but it turned out to be an expensive mistake. Others have... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
