Santa Cruz was the last stop on our two-week family trip down the coast from Portland and we spent three nights at the Paradox. Our experience was generally positive - the service was very warm and the people working there could not do enough for you. I remarked to my wife that you would have thought each person we encountered... More

The reception, the restaurant and tje swimming pool are renobated with very good design. The service at the restaurant is very good. One of the best. There is free wifi. The interior rooms are good. (But they are in a configuration of a Motel with access from exterior balcony)

I paid $500 for 2 nights for this?? I guess you could say a sucker is born every minute. 250/ night with a view of a parking lot and smokers. Across the street from bail bonds and tatoo/ piercing joint. Sounds like your type of place? Not mine. Internet doesn't work so I can't even distract myself. Took my son... More

A few years ago, Hotel Paradox had new owners, and had just finished a major artistic upgrade & remodel. To celebrate, there was a Grand Opening party through the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce. I attended the event, and immediately fell in love with Hotel Paradox! My husband and I had just started dating at the time, and consequently had... More

My family and another family stayed at the Hotel Pardox for a couple of days last week as we toured the area after spending 5 days in San Francisco. We chose the Hotel Paradox because it looked better than the Hampton we had originally booked. Because we chose the same week as the Monterey Car week the pricing was very... More

We are so glad you stayed with us recently, and grateful for your review. I sincerely appreciate your kind comments regarding the property upgrade, room appointments, pool area and restaurant. I do apologize for the problem you experienced with noise from other guests, and that the room was a little smaller than you anticipated. It is true that accommodations on... More

it's obvious that this hotel went through a redesign without consulting with advisors in the industry that could have prevented some missteps: Putting a huge log in the lobby instead of a check-in desk?? you may think that looks avant-garde, but guests want a surface to put keys/ID/phone down on as they check in--how do you put that on a... The Hotel Paradox is located right in the center of business in Santa Cruz, and is convenient to lots of shops and restaurants. It was an easy walk to several shopping/eating areas, but some sections might not be advisable if you were walking alone at night. It is a very basic property (old Holiday Inn) that has been totally remodeled... More

This hotel has had a nature makeover. There is a giant tree on its side as the front desk and there are photographs of nature throughout. I think it could just do with a few more details and it is somewhat overpiced. The concept and design details fell short for me.The swimming pool area is lovely. the jacuzzi was very... More

Internet-pictures suggest a promise the real deal does not keep. Ocean Street is awful, the kind of nomansland you get when driving off a highway, and the hotel is just like that - noisy nomansland. The rooms are okay but you cannot open a window and you hear every sneeze of your next-door neighbour. Staff was friendly when needed.

We were treated very well by the front desk at check in. They provided a free shuttle to the boardwalk and close locations which has really great. The shuttle driver Alex was very kind and knowledgable. The room was clean and decorated in a modern way that was very relaxing. And the bed was very comfortable. The problem I personally... More
