This is the best hostel I have ever stayed in. It was clean, close to the beach (a less than 5 min walk) and had a cute cottage feel. They provided free towels when checking in and our 'cottage' we were staying in had 2 rooms with 5 beds in each. Each of the cottages had a living room/chill area... More

Friendly staff. Nice old location feeling, vintage building from the early days here. Close to beach boardwalk, but quite area. International feel from lots of foreign visitors. Good kitchen for making food and eating. Yeah, I would stay here again. Chance to meet and chat with visitors more likely here than a regular hotel if you like to get to... More

I stayed in a private room with a queen size bed. I snuggled up under the blankets and had a fantastic sleep. I was close to the washroom and shower which is always good. I found that the staff were friendly and efficient and I was able to use the fridge to store my food until I needed it for... More

Really cheap stay if you take a shared room. The security is really weak though, as the individual rooms are unlocked and I find it very easy for anauthorized people to get in. All you have is a small sized locker. Nice neighborhood and close to the beach and the boardwalk.

This hostel was so cute. It's a really nice place if you're looking for a quiet stay. We stayed two nights, but that was enough for me. The cottage we were in had a female and a male dorm, each with 5 beds. It had a tv and sofas, table and sink with a fridge. There was a large bathroom.... More

Really liked this quiet, charming, central location amongst the madness of the boardwalk area. The historic property spread among a number of small cottages with good kitchen and plentiful shared spaces is one of the nicest hostels we've stayed.

Stayed 1 night on my way up to San Francisco. Dorm room was fine, comfortable enough bed, good shower. WIFI was decent, split across all the cottages. The kitchen was good, all the required equipment. The website says food is available for cooking, that's not really true, it seems like they buy a bunch of stuff every week or so... More

The service and people working here is OK. But you are not allowed to drink alcohol on the hostel, and they CLOSE the hostel between 11 in the morning until 17.00. You are not allowed to go inside your own room!! It's crazy sins you payd for it. The good thing is the location and the price.

I recently stayed at Santa Cruz Youth Hostel Carmelita Cottages. I'd stayed there once before, a couple years ago. It's in a good location, a few blocks from the Beach Boardwalk, but the cottages are severely lacking in quality and customer service. I stayed there for 5 nights the last time I was there - one night in the male... More

Good place to stay overall. It consists of a group of cottages surrounded by lovely gardens which are well maintained. Good location, short walk to the centre of town. Good quality and clean bathrooms. I was able to park my motorcycle off street. Seemed a little lonely when I was there. Didn't meet anyone else staying there at the time... More
