We had no choice all the hotels close by were book out. Very noisy, sliding door doesn't lock, dirty unclean room. Bed bugs, manager refused to refund money when we found out the place was disgusting. Will not stay here again a dump. Read reviews as there correct. Stay away!

We decided not to book ahead for our trip down the Pacific Coast Highway and just stop when we found somewhere nice. Santa Cruz appealed and so we tried a few places until we found one at a sensible price - Lanai Lodge. I'm very glad that we didn't read the TripAdvisor reviews first as it would have put us... More

This was our first trip to Santa Cruz, the kids have been asking to go to the beach boardwalk. However, for some reason every motel/hotel in walking distance was either booked or way overpriced (i think there was a beach volleyball tourney) hence we found ourselves at the Lanai Lodge (also incredibly overpriced considering the condition, I've stayed at 3... Fantastic location, clean room, friendly staff. The room had everything we needed, and there was also a bonus of a balcony, pool, and ice machine. the free, complimentary breakfast was a nice bonus, and the wi-fi connection was good. A fridge would have been nice, along with more channels on the TV.

Here's the thing about this place - you sacrifice comfort for the beach and boardwalk being quite close. My mother and I came here for years and it was always the same, the floors are dirty, you have to walk with shoes always unless you want black feet, the rooms are subpar with nothing fancy (if coffee maker and fridge... The room we stayed in was clean and the bed was comfortable, but it did not include many extras - such as hair dryer, coffee maker, old style TV, wall heater, etc. Overall, it probably needs to be remodeled as the bathroom is also is very dated, vanity, wall cabinet, shower tiles show old patched hole from previous shower door,... I called after reading these reviews and expressed my concern of reserving a room but wanted to check it out. The owner " jay" held my room with no deposit on Presidents' Day weekend so I could decide after inspecting the room. I showed up and jay had keys waiting for me, the room was clean. I agreed to stay... More

The good news is that this is much cheaper than the hotel across the street. Santa Cruz has a lot of cheap hotels and this isn't the best buy. Also, you're probably going to get a balcony and at least a sliver of a view of the ocean. Now comes the bad news. We felt less like guests than like... More

This place is absolutely the worst in Santa Cruz! Anyone giving this a good review must work for the place! Nasty dirty, holes in the counter top, food & dirty blankets in the pull out bed! The sliding door wouldn't lock & there is a trail leading up to it from the street. With the money we gave them over... More
