Old, dingy, dark facility. Rooms, hallways, elevator, breakfast room all in need of modernization and renovation. Only pluses were the location and the very friendly, accommodating staff. Highly over-priced for the facility. A must-miss!

We were greeted by very friendly staff who made us feel really welcome. We had a nice room, and comfortable beds with a choice of firm or soft pillows. The bathroom had a lovely shower. The hotel is in a very good location less than a block from State Street and only a short walk to the sea.

very convenient to State St, shopping and restaurants but not comparable to other HIE. This hotel is a bit tired. the room was nice but the bed was old, soft and noisy. kept feeling the metal edge of the mattress, they need news beds. parking was 14.00 but I guess good for a downtown location. $200.00+ for a weeknight stay!... Located right in the heart of Old Town Santa Barbara just walking distance to the Waterfront as well as the historical State Street plus complimentary breakfast?! Check check and check. I'm sold. Aside from the fact that hotel parking is a bit tight/limited and an additional cost of $14 per night I don't have that much to complain about because... More

Stayed three nights. Beautifully appointed lobby/sitting area. Restored historic hotel. Staff was gracious and friendly. Steps away from State Street--parked our car and forgot about it. Easy walk to shops, restaurant, movie theatres and even the wharf. Had an interior room facing parking lot, not street, so it was quiet. Downsides--1) had a large room with two double beds--would have... More

The Holliday Inn Express Hotel is a historic landmark (1916) in Santa Barbara and is perfectly located for either shopping or the beach. The previous name of the hotel was Hotel Virginia. Shopping is literally around the corner ... half a block away from State Street and it only about a five minute walk to the Santa Barbara pier. They... More

Good location in downtown Santa Barbara. Very friendly staff, easy parking (less than $20 per day which is reasonable) and good free breakfast. It is a converted old building so the rooms are a bit odd shaped. The decor and furnishings are tired and they really could use to remodel. Biggest complaint is the same as others - if you... More

If all you want is a good, clean and comfortable room in the heart of Santa Barbara, this is your place. Prices are very reasonable for the area (they even honor government travel rates on occasion). Staff are also very helpful and courteous. In fact, the staff gets five stars from me for 1) finding me food and coffee well... More

I just got back from Santa Barbara and we stayed at this hotel. We breezed through check in and were given a 2nd floor room. The room was very cute with a red brick wall and 2 beds. For some reason I didnt take a picture before we messed it all up. Shout out to Jonathanat the front desk, for... More

Centrally located with nicely appointed and clean rooms. If you are stuck in rooms 111 - 115 (and likely the 200 series rooms above) you will be subjected to excessive street noise and conversation, loud at times, since these rooms are essentially in the downtown traffic flow. The result was a significantly less than acceptable nights "rest".
