This hotel is located within walking distance to Stearns Wharf (approx. 1 mile) and the "Funk Zone" (approx. 1 1/2 miles) The wharf has several good, casual restaurants and a few shops, but the views are great. I cashed in some hhonors points for a weekend away with my wife at the Fess Parker. When we first arrived we were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the grounds of the hotel were. a number of beautiful native California plants and flowers were across a nicely kept property that overlooked the Ocean. My family stayed here for six nights recently. The positives of this hotel were the location and grounds. Located directly across from the beach, it was easy to access both the ocean and the path for walking and biking along the waterfront. This resort is an older property with the beach across the road and a short drive or walk to State Street, where all the shopping and restaurants are. This "resort" is terribly run-down. Rooms are very dark and musty with old, dated furniture. We stayed at the Doubletree in Marina del Ray the night before staying at the Fess Parker, and I can not believe the difference in quality of these two properties.
