One of the best B&Bs we have visited in 15 years of going to the US - and it's all about the hostess. If you're going to Santa Barbara consider this one seriously - it aint cheap but it's worth it. Handily located for the main street shopping and restaurants, but the key is the advice and chat that Marie... more

Marie is the inns keeper and extremely attentive. She made a beautiful and delicious breakfast every morning. She is very personable, that is something I look for in a b and b. Every room at The James House is a special one--I would have felt pampered in any of them. I especially like how spacious the private bathrooms were. The house... more

Stunning 1890s house with 5 rooms. We stayed in the Carrilo Room and it was beautiful. The inside balcony with a bathtub and hand shower were incredible. Marie is a perfect hostess. Her care for all the guests and quality food surpassed all our expectations. We will be going back, soon! A note to first time B&Bers, if you expect... more

What a wonderful experience! James House is in a great location just off of the main street, State Street, in downtown Santa Barbara. The room we stayed in, the Chapala Room, had a nicely renovated bathroom with a great tub and even some bath salts were provided. There was a sunny, private deck outside of our room where we would... more

My husband and I stayed here the night of our wedding and the following night as well and it was amazing. The room was gorgeous, the food delicious and the service delightful. My husband and I stayed in the Chapala Room for four nights to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I had chosen the James House based on the tripadvisor reviews, but was a little nervous booking it without first hand recommendations. We were delighted with everything about it! The inn and our room were charming, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. When... more

We are not usually bed & breakfast type people, and I was a little surprised to be arriving at our destination, which is very residential. The inn is an historic home, but well maintained. There are a few parking spots behind the house, otherwise it's street parking. As all other reviewers have mentioned, Marie is what makes this place special.... more

Staying at James House was our first experience at a bed and breakfast, and we had an absoultely wonderful time. The place is beautifully decorated without being overdone. It is clean and comfortable, and we felt right at home. The food was gourmet and absolutely delicious. Marie, who is the owner and operator, was delightful to be with. Visiting with... more

We spent three nights celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary at the James House. It was a wonderful experience: great room with a balcony, perfect location near restaurants, food was wonderful. Most of all, the stay was made wonderful because of the hostess, Marie. She is a delightful person and she made us feel so welcome. We highly recommend! Linda and... more

We stayed for two nights as part of our California honeymoon and wish we could have stayed longer. As all previous reviews say Marie is a fantastic cook and host and James House is a beatiful B and B. We stayed in the Capala room which had a lovely balcony at the front. The day we arrived Marie had put... more
