We arrived in Santa Barbara without pre-booking anywhere to stay. Unfortunately, a lot of places were booked up and those that weren’t were out of our budget. We found the El Prado by chance as, while it’s on State Street, it’s heading out of the main drag. We tried a few motels near the beach which were available and within... more

The room was like a cave. It was dark and dank and not a comfortable place to stay for the 6 days we were there. We went to Santa Barbara for my husband's grandmother's 95th birthday party, and stayed there because it was in walking distance from his grandmother's house. BIG mistake! It didn't matter what time of day we... more

The website indicates the rooms have a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator. No microwave was in our room. The coffee maker had a suspicious film inside it. The small refrigerator was okay. If you get a AAA discount, MAKE SURE you get the discount on your final bill. The ice maker was broken most of our stay. The only great... more

Accomodation very difficult to find in Santa Barbara. Thiss was reasonable at $119 + tax and is in an excellent location. Room was basic, small but clean. WIFI was not included and breakfast was limited (no juice and only baked goods from local bakery) Pool was very nice. Staff were very friendly and room was good value for Santa Barbara.... more

It's definitely not the worst hotel I've stayed in, but it's certainly not the best either. Everything is relative, right? It's location is good - but there are many hotels in better locations. It's cheap, but you get what you pay for. What I disliked: * cleaning crew obsessively pounding on the door at 8 AM. * our room faced... more

The El Prado is not my first choice but it can be a bargain if you call or web-surf well in advance and check in on a Sunday and leave Friday at noon. Weekends are always expensive in this town. The rates double for Friday and Saturday nights. Literally twice as much for the same room. Do NOT get a... more

We were with a car club that meets in Santa Barbara once a year for a 3 night weekend. The El Prado Inn was perfect for us. They have a garage underneath the building on both sides, and they gave us reserved parking for our cars (Cobras). They also put us all on the floors above that side of the... more

So my husband and I were travelling down the coast of California from San Francisco and made Santa Barbara the last stop before we drove back. Having stayed at three other hotels on our way south I was honestly very disappointed with this one. First of all, I tried to book it through hotels.com and was quoted $145 + tax/night... more
