An older motel but surprisingly clean considering the amount of visitors they get. We found the staff to be very friendly and attentive at both check in & out. We booked with hotel for it's convenience for Hearst Castle, couldn't have picked a better place. Castle approx 5 mins and Elephant Seals viewing point about 3 miles away. This is a very nice motel for a budget traveller (we paid 55$ for a quad room!). The room was clean, but not very spacious. The bathroom was big, but it has no hair dryer. The motel has also a nice indoor pool. The staff was friendly, only the breakfast is very poor (only coffe, muffins and jam). more

We just returned from San Simeon. The Sands Motel is a great place to stay and very reasonable. When we checked in, the staff was very friendly and gave us reliable information about the local restaurants. They had an indoor swimming pool that was heated to about 90 degrees. Lovely. Clean room and bathroom. Conveniently located to Hearst Castle. Good Mexican restaurant two doors south on Hwy 1. Very helpful staff. Very basic continental breakfast. Only concern was that they advertised WiFi access, but when I tried to hook up and found the signal very weak, they admitted that they piggybacked on the hotel across the highway. more

Unexpected stay needed just outside of Hearst Castsle - found a $49 coupon in a hotel book, so checked it out. Room was large, bathroom was large. Very clean, staff were super helpful. Disappointing breakfast - but you get what you pay for! Great location for a one night stay. more

Booked because of Trip Advisor reviews. The motel is clean, but very "spare." It is on the beach side, but view is blocked by another building.
