We stayed here because we wanted to visit nearby Cambria, but the prices in Cambria were exorbitant. For less than half the price we got a room that was clean, comfortable, convenient, and affordable. The bed was nice and firm and there was a large selection of pillow types. The towels were thick and plentiful and the shower, if small,... More

Pros: close to Hearst Castle, very friendly and helpful front desk staff, nice sized and reasonably priced king room (with micro and fridge), short walk to the beach, next door to a good restaurant (The Cavalier at the Best Western), comfortable bed and pillows, nice towels and good water pressure, very quiet. Cons (in order of "con-ness"): 1. no, zero,... More

We stayed 2 nights, and we're pleasantly surprised, we weren't expecting great things of it but it was really good, a great position, helpful gentleman on reception, and a good big room, very well presented. There is no restaurant, but eating places are close, and Cambria is just a couple of miles away. We used the breakfast voucher at the... More

This was our Big Sur stay and the sea was impressive and the sands by the sea was very convenient for our two night stay , right on the highway and ideal for visiting Hearst Castle , the elephant seals and the interesting village of Cambria which is theCeltic name for Wales . . Rooms were fine and had seen... More

Stopped in for a night whilst on a road trip visiting Hearst Castle, Rooms were clean and the service was good! At night there were some great bonfires on the beach to sit and enjoy the scenery and chilly ocean breeze. Not much else to do here but it was more than adequate for a nights stay. Would stay again.

We just stayed overnight at this hotel, hotel is situated in a great location next to restaurants and of course the beach. The hotel offers a heated pool, pool was clean but not kept hot, it was at around 72 degrees or so. We had a double room, the room has Microwave, fridge and coffee maker with TV. I want... More

We stayed for one night in the Sam's by the sea hotel last night. As the name states--Sands-yes – view of the sea – no. While we found the desk clerk very friendly, everything from that point forward went downhill. The hotel is actually surrounded by one of the competitor hotels so there is no way to see the sea.... Stayed one night in Sands by the Sea and enjoyed it thoroughly. We had partial ocean view and the sounds of ocean's waves coming through the window in the morning were priceless. The rooms are adequate for the price and motel rating. Staff is friendly and accommodating. The best part was the park in front of the ocean. Magical nature,... More

We stayed at this hotel for one night on our way North to from LA to Mendocino County. For the price we didn't have very high expectations, but after staying at more expensive Moonstone Beach Motels for years we were ready for a change. The woman who checked us in was very nice, and she gave us a couple of... More

This property is very neat, clean, and well-maintained. Proximity to Hearst Castle is terrific. The rooms are a bit small, and the amenities are a bit lacking compared to three- or four-star properties. (E.g., the entranceway is a bit dark, because there is no hallway light. There are only three small drawers under the TV stand, so there's not much... More
