What a lovely surprise. There we were expecting a bog standard motel, but ended up having a wonderful stay at the end of a long day on the Big Sur. It started with a heartwarming welcome from Brian who couldn't have been more welcoming and careful in checking us in. The sun was setting outside our room and the fire... More

Hotel was Ok for a 2 night stay. Room was large clean, no air con so very hot and stuffy. Bathroom clean but desperately needs a refurbishment. Could not access Wfi during entire stay. Was informed by reception that there is limited access only on ground floor. You need an upstairs room to access the Wfi as the "rods are... More

I booked this room online through a site called AMOMA.com (which I found out is in France). My credit card was charged (and paid) before I went. When I got there, I showed them the voucher and they had no record of my reservation. They graciously gave me a nice room and didn't charge me. My room was very comfortable... More

This modest looking motel, right by the expensive Best Western, surprised us when we walked into the room: a lovely, clean and large room, with modern decore and new high quality furniture, excellent bed and large bathroom. We gor coupons for continental breakfast in the Cavalier restaurant.

This isn't a negative review about this particular hotel as it is an indictment about the "town" of San Simeon, which for all we saw consisted of a few hotels and a few restaurants, just about all of them for people wanting to visit Hearst Castle. The town of Cambria, located further down the highway, would probably be a better... More

The reception opens at 1600 so don't get there early. The room was well equipped with coffee, iron & ironing board, breakfast wa taken in the cavalier restraunt next door and good but basic. Close to the beach and good walks along the buff.

We stayed here once when using airline miles and found it to be perfectly satisfactory. My main concern with motels is cleanliness and this one was fine. Found out it is owned by the same folks as the more expensive Best Western right next door. So there's beach access with this motel as well. I would stay here again. 10... More

Seemed like a nice place. The room was nice and I could hear the ocean. Guy at the desk was friendly and was touting the places amenities as I checked in. Unfortunately, it was nearly 10pm and I had just driven 100 miles. My sleep deprived mind/body and the darkness caught what he was telling me, but I wasn’t able... More

When entering the room we did not find it particularly inviting - it was dingy and had a fusty rather than fresh smell. Shower, washbasin and toilet were OK and a bid double bed was in the room. There was no aircon, but a big, big fan (that would do any WW2 aircraft proud) with an orangy light in the... More

This is interesting.Sands by the Sea is part of the Best Western Cavelier Resort. Of the 5 buildings grouped around a large open field, this is the only building without ocean view. I believe this one building closest to the road is therefore operated under a separate name. My credit card statement revealed the payment was made to Best Western.... More
