•Do not busy yourself in the kitchen, mid-day when expecting check-ins, while listening to Fergie at high volume. •Do not greet your guests with "You're really early” … even if they are. •Do not assume your guests already know your name and, therefore, never bother to introduce yourself. •Do not leave your guests wondering whether there is or is not... more

Don't believe me? Read on... I found this bed and breakfast on Yelp when I was looking for accommodations in SLO. I took my girlfriend there for the weekend with the goal of visiting Hearst Castle. The Sanitarium made the visit special in a way we'll never forget. The Sanitarium is located about a 10 minute walk from downtown San... more

Absolutely amazing. I planned a getaway for my fiancee and myself and I couldn't have picked a better place. The serenity of the rooms packed with the hospitality of our hostess was more than anyone could have planned for. The simplicity of the design and charm of the surrounding historical district give anybody seeking an escape - complete serenity. The... more

I loved my 3-night stay at the Sanitarium. It was the perfect antidote to my crazy work life in LA. It is a lovely B&B located about 5 blocks from the main drag at SLO. There are better-located B&B's relative to the main drag than the Sanitarium, but the extra distance and the extra cost is worth the stay. You... more

Dream-like, not for everyone...a fairy castle run by four women artists in a Victorian sanitarium, in a quiet neighborhood a couple of blocks from the rail station. Every room has a zinc Moroccan tub, outdoor deck and a fireplace, and the staff is amazingly friendly. A working artists studio and turtle pond complete the picture. Look: you can pay $200... more

The Sanitarium has the potential to be one of the best bed and breakfasts in the country. It is beautifully decorated and has a quirky bohemian charm missing from most inns/hotels. However, its poor management and service makes one forget about the luxurious amenities. We had to ask for towels and toilet paper, which I found appalling. There are no... more

If you respond to art and are looking for something truly unique, a place that does not take itself too seriously but offers first class lodging, The Sanitarium is the place to check in. We had the pleasure of spending two days at the newly opened "The Sanitarium B&B". With its eclectic and whimsical decor, this is not your mother's... more
