When I travel for business, I want a simple, clean and comfortable spot with a good breakfast and a great cocktail. The Citizen and the Grange provide just that. Location is central and gives good access to the best coffee place in town too. I wish that the bathroom had more light.

A great change from all the chain hotels I stay at as a frequent business traveler. The historic building has much charm and character. Staff was top notch. Room was excellent (as was the remainder of the property). Great ambiance.

I visit Sacramento regularly as part of my work. I discovered the Citizen Hotel several months ago and have continued to stay there whenever I can. Centrally located, it is a mere three blocks from the State Capital Building, the Citizen stands as a monument to California's political history. Completely refurbished, it's well-chosen artifacts bring to mind the good old... More

Lovely room, quaint, liked the decor. View was nice and so was the staff. Just had one problem, DUST! Tons of dust all over the room and the coffee maker was dirty. Thankfully I'm not a code drinker.I did a "hotel impossible" inspection. Other than that a great room.

I love this hotel! I have to go to Sacramento about once a month for business and I usually stay at the typical 4-star hotels downtown, but this one was different. It was unique and fun. I was greeted warmly by the valet and then the gentleman at the front desk made me feel like it wasn't just a routine... More

I enjoyed my one night stay. The decorating of the hotel and room was really nice. The bell boy service was also very efficient and friendly. My favorite part of the hotel was it's restaurant, Grange. Really, really good FRESH food. My only complaint is that the view from my room was beautiful but the windows were so tiny. Oh... More

This is an excellent hotel. It is unfortunate that it gets so many bad reviews because of the noise. I asked at the front desk about that, and they were very clear: Some rooms are noisy, because they are directly above the bar area and the reception area for the weddings. They gave me a room far from that, on... More

My experience at the Citizen Hotel was a good one. The room service staff were excellent and I enjoyed getting a $5 food/beverage voucher for each night that I didn't have the room cleaned! I put those to good use in the restaurant downstairs. The staff were always smiling and friendly and helped out with requests in any way they... More

Heritage hotel, rennovated and well-maintained; lots of special touches associated with the period it was originally built. Great staff in all departments, knowledgable, friendly, quickly responded to any requests (eg, extra hangers, non-feather pillows, etc). Well-located, just 3 blocks from convention center, bus and taxi rank in same block. The Grange restaurant, on the hotel property, has a gourmet menu,... More

I'm visiting Sacramento for work and chose to stay at The Citizen Hotel instead of the normal Sheratons and Hyatts as I prefer less of a chain feel with hotels. I cannot fault the service from the staff. Absolutely second to none. The room (I had a corner room on 5th floor) was absolutely adequate in size and I loved... More
