We recently stayed at the Portofino Hotel. We had planned to visit various areas of San Diego and Los Angeles and foud this to be a nice base. The hotel lobby area is very charming and we found the service to be fine. The water or ocean view room was a nice size, very clean with a nice jacuzzi tub... more

This may be the most difficult review I have yet written for TripAdvisor. My wife and I stayed at the Portofino for three nights over Labor Day weekend in 2008. We had a reasonably pleasant visit but I was prepared, three weeks before I arrived, to give this hotel only one star. Happily I don't feel the need to do... more

So I attended a wedding here a little while ago and the location looked promising, but it all went downhill after I pulled up my hand brake and slipped my key out of the ignition. I don't know how I can make this sound cohesive, so I'm just going to put down my top 4 annoyances in no particular order.... more

This is a great hotel. The staff was very friendly! I booked a cheap room which was in the marina side. I requested a second floor bec. I read some of the reviews and they said to request for the second floor if you can only afford the marina side but when we checked in by noon to leave our... more

Just returned from 4 nights at the Portofino--the hotel has a couple of things going for it: view of the harbor (make sure to ask for a water view room, otherwise you will be looking at the parking lot and the power plant), good restaurant, free bicycles. It really is an old-fashioned motel that has been updated. But a lot... more

This is a super hotel. We arrived by bus from the airport and it only cost 1 dollar!!!! We ate breakfast every morning looking out at the marina, it was really relaxing. We ate in the hotel one night and it was very tasty. The room was just what we wanted. I could not find one fault with it. We... more

On approaching this hotel from the freeway I really had my concerns about this hotel, the first thing I saw was a massive electric power plant and knew from my directions that the hotel had to be close to it! I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised, it was a lovely hotel with very welcoming staff - the valet parking... more

(If you want the first part of this story, look up the PV Inn and read my review). To conclude, once we arrived at 2 am tired after a long wedding and visiting two other hotels, the staff could not have been more friendly! They were compassionate after hearing what we went through and we got an amazing room at... more

We flew into LA with air france which arrives at 8pm. After that trip we knew we wouldn't get far safely but wanted to get away from the usual airport hotels. This hotel was very easy for us to find with the directions from the car hire and was quick. Our only regret is not gettting our act together (... more

I just came back from from the Portofino, and here're my 2 cents. 1. Upon arriving, I was surprised at the age of the place. The exterior looks old and can use some updating. 2. The staff was friendly. Everyone we saw always acknowledged us. Valet was a bit slow, however. 3. The lobby is quite beautiful and quaint. There... more
