With only a couple of lodging choices in Portola, we relied on other reviews and decided on Sleepy Pines Motel. What a nice place. It's old, but doesn't feel "run down" at all. The rooms are nice and well-kept. The owners are friendly and have a well-stocked quilt shop attached to the office. Even though it's right on the main... More

We have stayed at Sleepy Pines Motel twice now. We love the quaintness of the place. And if you are a birder this place is a must to stay. Every night the owner puts out alot of seed. And there are Tree Swallow nest boxes everywhere with active nests in each one. The birds come and eat starting early. We... More

Near down town Portola is a gem of a motel with log-cabin construction and within real knoty pine walls and ceiling. Well maintained mom and pop family run business and cabins. Flowers everywhere. Proprietors very friendly and helpful. Has satilite Dish t.v. and internet. Prices are in the range of Motel 6 or Economy Lodge. I stayed a week and... More

I would give the hotel a five, but it's a little dated. That's the only flaw. It's very clean and well kept. You can tell that the owners really care about this place, it's owned by a very nice older couple, two of the friendliest motel owners I've come across in my travels. They have WiFi and fridges in the... More

Sleepy Pines was not our first choice, but we weren't disappointed. Our room had a king and a kitchen. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen well stocked with equipment (coffee maker w/coffee & teas, microwave, etc.). All rooms face the highway, but we were not bothered by traffic sounds. The room had plenty of comfortable seating. The dinette table... More

Rating it 4 stars may be a bit of a stretch, but it was better than 3. The Sleepy Pines Motel is on 70 in Portola. I take long solo motorcycle trips, so I am not looking for amenities other travelers might, esp those traveling with a spouse or special needs or children. I want clean, comfortable, wifi, hot water,... More

Located in the heart of the valley. very clean, rates reasonable, and accommodating. Saved me money due to kitchens in room. Sure beats the cookie cutter motel. This was more like home.

I used to stay here in the early 1990s when it was rustic and cozy - and clean. I always stayed in the "knotty pine" rooms in the section closest to the office. Sadly, the motel has deteriorated significantly over the last decade or so. Carpeting is stained; the blankets on my bed were torn and frayed; the mattress cover... More

With more than a decade in the hospitality industry, I believe I know customer service. My husband and I are avid snowmobilers and were looking forward to another weekend in the snow when we made the 4 hour drive to Portola and the Sleepy Pines Motel. We had a gift certificate to redeem - a gift certificate that we had... More
