The Cary House is a great old hotel with a hot of charm in the lobby and a ton of history! The lobby has some great stuff in it and the breakfast and free wi-fi are excellent, also there was air conditioning. The funky old-elevator was out on our night there, but we were on the second floor so it... more

My husband and I have had the pleasure of staying at the Cary House numerous times. The staff is always wonderful, especially Chester. The rooms are delightful. You feel more like you're coming home or to Grandma's house then staying at a hotel. Very, very comfy and relaxing. The location is wonderful! We both love downtown Placerville and the Cary... more

The lobby is beautiful, just what you would expect form an historic hotel. We had the double room, 2 beds, and found the decor to be disappointing compared to the photos on the website, just basic plain. The kitchenette was nice, two burners a frige & sink, except there were no pots/pans or utensils. Breakfast was basic as well. If... more

I was a little concerned about paying large to stay here after reading some of the reviews here, but we were only staying one night - my birthday - on the way to San Francisco, so we tried it. It is in an excellent location - easy walking to good restaurants and bars, or shopping in boutique stores if that's... more

When considering the price of the rooms on a weekend, the bath towels were very small and thin. The continental breakfast wasn't as good as many nation chain motels. A potential safety problem I saw as well as another guest: The alley between the hotel and the parking lot was very long and there was no exterior lighting. more

I wanted to take a moment to tell everyone what a great stay we had over the new year at the Cary House. I normally do not take the time to write reviews but I normally do not stay at a Historic Hotel as the Cary House in Placerville. My wife and I met our long time high school friends... more

We are from Reno, NV and we enjoy staying in the nearby Amador area but thought that we would try something new for my 40th birthday. Bad idea to go with the Cary House Hotel. Let me start with the room; dirty and smelly, with holes in the furniture and mildew in the bathroom. We awoke to a very cold... more

First - I got a better price through the hotel's website than through Hotels.com. Second - I've stayed there twice and will be staying again next month. The location is perfect - right downtown where Placerville has street fairs, there are good restaurants and antique shops with easy access to highway but away from highway noise. The decor is 1970's... more

Stayed at the hotel following a white water raft trip. Although there are claims that the hotel is haunted we didn't see any ghosts! The hotel is in great shape for being so old and the rooms were very clean. The staff was friendly and informative and the rates were very reasonable. We are looking forward to staying there again... more

I frequently travel to Placerville for business and have stayed at most of the hotel/motels in the area. I just keep returning to the Cary House! All of the rooms are decorated with antiques which lends a different personality to each suite. Most importantly, the beds are very comfortable. The staff is always very courtious and friendly. Chester, at the... more
