I was chaperoning my son's class rafting trip on the American River and needed to login to a work conference one day. I spent the night here so I could get up early and be online. The wireless wasn't quite good enough in my room to transmit a webcam so the staff went out of the way to help me... More

We stayed overnight while attending a wedding in the area and were delighted with the ambiance and comfort of this old hotel. We live in the area and have visited Placerville often, however, this was our first time at the Cary House. The lobby and coffee room were charming, the bed comfortable and bathroom spotless. We stayed in the Philip... More

We wanted to spend some days in Gold Country and intentionally chose this for the historic appeal. Rooms were very small and outdated but shame on me for not anticipating that for a hotel with historic in its name. The staff was exceptionally helpful. After sweltering the first night, they finally turned the AC on the second night or I'd... More

Stayed at the Cary House while visiting Placerville (wish I didn't - what a sad town) and wanted to leave immediately after stepping foot in the place. First, the smell will knock you off your feet right there in the lobby. This place smells like your sick old grandparents house, and not just a little bit (a lot). I'm not... More

October is anniversary time and the welcoming town of Placerville, CA is a great destination for numerous attractions. The historic Cary House is centrally located, neat, and decorated tastefully to take you back in time to the crazy gold rush days. The room we stayed in was named and reflected the history of its name. Ample space, secure, and comfortable... More

Undeniably the BEST location in town. It's in the middle of all the action. There's good and bad with that. Good-you are walking distance to the restaurants, shops and bars. Bad-it's a bit on the noisy side if your room faces the main street. The rooms are a bit outdated in terms of amenities, however you do get that historic... More

Our sister/sister-in-law stayed at the Carey House while she was here visiting Mom at The Pines Rehab. Georgia was sick while here and the Cary House folks were so kind to her. Her room was small but so tastefully furnished .....she felt safe here and loved that she did not need a car for her trip to Placerville....because of the... More

Historic beauty, ambiance, warmth, charm, comfort are only a few of the words I would use to describe this wonderful, old hotel right in the heart of main street Placerville. On a whim, my fiancé and I decided to get married on Christmas Day and found the lobby next to the tree and underneath one of the gorgeous stained glass... More

Around since 1857, many hotels can be quaint but a bit long in the tooth. Not the historic Cary House. Beautiful. Charming. Historic. Warm. Inviting. Well located. Located on the main street of Placerville, this 157 year old hotel is a gold mine! The lobby is inviting filled with wonderful artifacts collected through the history of the hotel. Not overcrowded... I run an annual event for 35 people and this was my 3rd year at the Cary House. I keep going back for several reasons. 1. I love the ambiance of the place. it's a nice gold rush era hotel where 'rustic' means cool rather than old and broken. The event facilities are nice and have the same atmosphere as... More
