Once we found our room, we were delighted. We arrived after 6:00PM, so the office was closed. I easily found our room key and directions to the room in the late check-in box, but the directions were hard to follow and there were no signs-- it took us 20 minutes to find the room (the Garden Suite around back) And... The Madrones will be our go-to accommodation in Anderson Valley. First class and very well done, with attention to detail and quality. Great property in a really fun area. Highly recommend The Madrones for a special getaway to unpretentious Anderson Valley.

We recently spent 3 nights at this property in room 3. It was a gorgeous, comfortable & relaxing room with many thoughtful amenities. It was a perfect spot to base a visit to the Anderson Valley wine region. The host Jim was most helpful with winery tour information, restaurant recommendation and a awareness of our needs. The property is going... More

My husband and I recently stayed at The Madrones and the stay could not have been lovelier. We chose Estate Quarters 1 which was very well appointed and beautifully decorated. The room was much larger then the average hotel room and exponentially more charming. Stone and Embers which is located on the property is absolutely fantastic and they feature a... More

We enjoyed our stay there very much though were very disappointed that the restaurant (Stone Embers) was open only on weekends so we were not able to enjoy it. The accommodation was beautiful (over the restaurant - with King bed and beautiful décor). We strongly recommend that The Madrones provide housekeeping in the future and also to make it a... More

Hello Joan, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay at The Madrones. I was out of town during your visit, so I am sorry that I did not get a chance to meet you personally on your one night stay during the week. I am so happy that you were pleased... More

When you can have a better experience here. We were the first paying guest in the Garden Room, and could not have asked for anything better (though it is the least expensive room) Everything here is in exquisite taste and the staff makes you feel like a houseguest. Also, there is very good restaurant and four wine-tasting rooms on the... More

We had a very pleasant stay at The Madrones. The Guest Quarters III was quite spacious and attractive, with a super-comfy bed and sheets. The continental breakfast items in our room for the first morning were a welcome surprise, and it was nice to have a fridge. (Hint to the owners: There’s plenty of room for a small microwave!) While... More

My wife and I booked this place for the Anderson Valley Pinot Festival which took place last weekend. We loved the spacious room, which was tastefully appointed. The location is very convenient for visiting wineries in the area, including four wineries on the premises (Drew and Knez are particularly good!). The new Stone & Embers restaurant on the premises is... More

We were lucky enough to be able to spend two days at a venue that is new to us, "The Madrones". We have been traveling in the Anderson Valley for the last 25 years and this was our first stay. The property is a unique design that places a superb small restaurant on the ground floor across the patio from... More

Full disclosure- this is my second rave review for The Madrones and what goes on there, and no, I am not a paid writer :) I know I will regret singing the praises of this wonderful haven, as I may find I can no longer secure a room one of these days, but I can't help it. My husband and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As seen in Sunset, Food & Wine and Departures Magazines, The Madrones is an Agriturismo style destination which offers just four luxurious guest quarters for travelers who seek something unique and intimate in rural setting. This is not a hotel or B&B, so the service is very low touch...no daily maid service is provided. Perfect for travelers looking for a place to get away without someone hovering over you. If you are looking for accommodations rich in amenities, such as spas, restaurants, room service & breakfast, this is probably not a good fit. Surrounded by vineyards and wineries in the heart of the Anderson Valley, this Mediterranean styled compound which was originally a home and private business has garnered prestigious national awards and recognition. The property has four separate tasting rooms offering local small lot wines, as well as a curiosity store, cheese counter and private gardens. ... more   less
