I have wanted to stay at one of the 2 San Mateo Coast Lighthouse Hostels for over 30 years. We just completed a one night stay at the Pigeon Point hostel and it exceeded expectations. We were in a private room that had a 'houston bed' - double bed on bottom with a top single bunk. The mattress was comfortable,... More

My wife and I visited the California coast last fall and decided to stay in hostels as we traveled from San Francisco down to Morrow Bay. While all our hostel stays were very good, Pigeon Point was the most picturesque. So much so that we have even noticed it in at least one television commercial for a pharmaceutical product. This... We at one time stayed on the higher ground above and overlooking the lighthouse at a rental series of attached apartment units. Since sold, now one has to stay at the hostel or in town at Pescadero or expensive Costanoa further down the road! Clean, safe. Beautiful views! Tremendous photo opportunities! Whales, fog, flowers, cliffs! Plenty of beauty!....where my heart... More

A friend of mine and I stumbled upon this place while driving up Highway 1 and booked a room for the next week. Close to some great hiking in Big Basin, not far from either Santa Cruz or San Francisco. The staff was charming and sweet and everyone we met were very sweet and fun to be around. We checked... We made a reservation in December for two nights in one of Pigeon Point's private rooms for August. The room was great-- very comfortable bed, enough room for a pack-and-play for our son. The hostel staff was welcoming and warm at check-in and throughout the weekend. There are four residential buildings. Three have a kitchen and one shares the kitchen... More

This hostel is quaint and charming. Location is peaceful and beautiful. Lots to explore. Lighthouse Museum and Gift Shop right there! Enjoyed our one night stay in a private room with shared bath. Wish we could have stayed longer! Will definitely return again.

Nice welcome from reception, easy check in and friendliness of everyone there was immediate winner. Nice clean... More

We booked 4 beds in a dorm at this hostel. The 6 bed dorm room had a private bathroom, which was very nice. Although the buildings could use a little tune up. It is a charming hostel. The beds were clean and comfortable and so was the kitchen. They have a great hot tub on the cliffs, overlooking the ocean.... More

There were three of us visiting in January, and we were lucky to have a whole building to ourselves. We didn't expect to have a kitchen, but we had full access and cooked a few meals. Loved using the jacuzzi at nighttime. We woke up early and watched the sunrise. The trails along the beach have some access to the... More

We decided to stop into see this lighthouse, before continuing our trip to the Monterey Peninsula for the weekend. This lighthouse is located along highway 1 and was another place to see a part of the California coast and read about its history. There really is not much to see here in the way of a museum but the view... More
